石巻から帰ってまいりました。
Came back from Ishinomaki

前回から約1ヶ月の経過してからの訪問だった為、町が緑に覆われ、見違えるように綺麗になっているのにビックリした。
It's been a month since I visited Ishinomaki last time. I was so surprised how much progress they had.


以前は瓦礫や折り重なった車などがあった。
There used to be a lot of debris on this street


ただ、今回は石巻の雄勝方面の漁具回収・瓦礫撤去・ドブさらいも行き、市街地との復興スピードの格差にがく然とした。まだまだボランティアの数が足りていないらしく、聞くところによると阪神淡路大震災の1/4だそうだ。
受け入れ態勢は整っているし、まだ余震の心配はあるものの、1日から活動できるから、どんどんボランティアに行ってもらいたいものだ。

However, I saw how much help they still need after seeing the Ogatu area which is 1 hour driving to north east from central Ishinomaki city.
I heard that the number of volunteers is much smaller than when we had "The Great Hanshin earthquake"; 4 times smaller.
Today, more easy for people to come and help,even we had a one day option. I hope more people know this situation and decide to come and help.

さて、今回　7月1日～7月13日まで滞在した

最初3日間は、ACCJ（American Camber commerce in Japan)米国商工会の団体と行動し、嬉しくも仙台のホテルに滞在しながら活動をする事ができた。
The first 3 days, I worked with ACCJ and could stay at a hotel in Sendai which was so nice.


作業日1日目のアパート掃除, Cleaning up some rooms in an apartment.


その後、漁具回収のプロジェクトに加わらせてもらい、ひたすらカキ養殖用のロープを回収。現在漁具がぜんぜん手に入らない状況らしい。その為、流された漁具を再利用する事が最優先課題になっている。
After ACCJ left, I worked with the team that collects fisherman's lost such as buoys and rope for farming oysters.

漁具チームに3日程加わらせてもらい、その後はドンチーム（石巻駅北側担当）に加わり、ドブ掃除や壁撤去をお手伝い。なかなか独特のスタイルで、作業半分　地元住民との交流半分という感じ。トコヤを営む小松さんのお宅を中継ポイントにしていて、毎日のようにお昼にご馳走を頂いた。気仙沼であがったカツオや、マグロの心臓は絶品。ボランティアに来て、こんなご馳走を食べれるとは。。。
After spent 3 days with the team of collecting fisherman's lost, worked with Don-kun whose team works at the north side of Ishinomaki train station. They do work as usual but also spend more time for talking to local citizen which I think good. We stopped by Mr. Komatu, who is one of citizen affected by this circumstance, everyday because he kindly let us use his house as a resting room. Everyday, we were treated by nice lunch Mr. Komatu cooked. I couldn't believe that we could have such meal in there.

まだまだマンパワーが必要だし、後ろ髪を引かれる思いで帰ったが、9月23日から始まる自転車ワールドツアーの為に準備をしなければ。。。もし時間が取れればまた行こうと思う。今も炎天下の中、作業に入っているボランティアの皆さん、本当熱中症には気を付けて頑張って下さい。
I felt that need more man power in Ishinomaki but needed to head back to Tokyo because the time of my bike world tour is coming soon, so I should do more things for this. If I have extra time by then, I will go back again.

明日から石巻に行きます。
今回も前回アテンドしたACCJ（American Camber Commerce in Japan,アメリカ商工会）のアテンド。彼等との日程は7/1～7/3迄だけど、可能ならその後も滞在して7月第3週目までには帰るつもり。

I am going to Ishimomaki again from Tomorrow.
In this time, I will be with ACCJ which I worked with last time. They will be working from July 1st to 3rd, but I probably stay there after they left and work until third week of July.

昨日現地の友人に電話をしたら、やっぱりまだまだやる事は多いらしい。ただ、前回自分達が作業した区域はおそらくかなり綺麗になっていると思う。見るのが少し楽しみ。

I made a phone call to my friends who are still working there last night, and they said there are still a lot to do. But, I am pretty sure that the area we worked last time will be very clean now, so I am looking forward to seeing this.

I still feel very tired so have been staying in my house since I came back

It's because I didn't take enough days off during my volunteer work, so all tiredness of my body came now.

As generalization of my stay,

Ishinomaki city is getting clean magnificently, a store that full of mud two month ago has opened, and people in evacuation center started to come back to their home to clean.

However, still a lot of debris and mud left. Also need more temporally home for victims, and get the economy in this city recovered to open more job.

The need is to help continuously by volunteers.

I have a interesting comment from the owner of the house that we helped cleaning.

She said they have been encouraged by seeing many volunteers helping community, cleaning mud and serving food.

I think it is very help victims by just being there and seeing situation.
I hope people keep interested in helping north.

Second visit to Ishinomaki

帰って来てからというもの、身体が重くてグダグダする毎日。

まともに休んでなかったから、疲れがドッと出たのかな。

この1ヶ月を通して思った事。

石巻は少しずつ綺麗になってる。2ヶ月前に泥まみれだったレストランがオープンしたり、避難してた人達が徐々に掃除しに戻り始めてる。

ただ、瓦礫やヘドロの撤去はまだまだ残ってるし、それ以外に被災者の仮設住宅の準備や、産業の再生と雇用という課題が残ってる。

これからも、ボランティアや支援団体が継続して入って、長い目で復興支援する事が必要。

現地で掃除をさせてもらった家族が、
ボランティアが泥かきや炊き出しを手伝ってワイワイやってるのを見るだけで元気づけられるって言ってた。

ボランティアって、いるだけであっちの人達の支えになってるのかも。だからこそ、沢山の人達に現地行ってほしいな。

I'm back.

Let me explain about after Sli Lankan group left.

I enjoyed taking shower at the hot spring after they left, and took another group from Tokyo.

They are the members of the augnization called American Camber Commerce Japan.

Today, the number of volunteers has been decreased since Golden Week Holiday.

However, some company started sending help which boosts volunteer effort.

In this time, our goal was to show the actual situation and that they understand how much help people in Ishinomaki still need.

Our schedule was twe days for cleaning and one day for inspection.

In the last day, I could meet a top of Peace Boat, Mr Yoshioka and say hello to him.

When Peace Boat scheduled the project of Sri Lankan Millitary, I was supposed to meet Yoshioka san to discuss about it. In some reason, we couldn't meet up.

We probably have a rapping up party on sometime in this month, so I hope I meet Yoshioka san and drink together.
He is very interesting person.

We got all scheduled don safely and rapped up.
They gave me a ticket for Shinkansen so I could come back by it which is very nice and fast.

Now, I'm home and enjoying being lazy.

帰って来ました。

スリランカ隊とお別れした後の事を少し。

彼等と別れた後、温泉に浸かり久々のシャワーを堪能したのち新たな団体の受け入れ。

今回は米国商工会団体。

PEACEボートの山本さんが進めていた案件。

現在、ボランティアが減少している最中、少しずつではあるが企業からの支援が増えてきている。

PEACEボートの活動を理解してもらう為にも、企業の方達に現地での活動と視察をしてもらい、より安定した支援を続ける事が狙い。

2日間作業で1日は視察。

最終日には、PEACEボート代表の吉岡さんも同行した為、挨拶する事ができた。

スリランカ隊を受け入れた時、面会する予定だったが、予定が合わず、なかなか会えずにいた。

近いうちに大使館の方達と慰労会をする予定なので、是非来てもらえたら良いな。

そんなこんなで、3日間の予定で進めた今回のグループも、怪我人を出す事なく、無事に解散。

彼等のはからいで、新幹線で帰らせてもらえる事ができ、帰りは2時間で川越に到着。

今は家でグダグダ。
いっぺんに疲れが出たようで、身体が鉛のように重い。。

今日でスリランカ隊とお別れ。

昨日、日中の作業を終了した後、訳あって違う場所で泊まらせてもらうことになり、その場所に滞在しているボランティアの方達と、文化交流。




スリランカ人達、楽しかったみたいで、会の後にいろいろ質問攻めに。

早朝、予想道理雨。

それが移動した理由。雨でテントが濡れると重くなって、飛行機で余分な費用を取られないように、前日に避難したという訳。

朝に木村さん（スリランカバスの運転手）に迎えてもらい、専修大に戻る。

前日から準備していたのにも関わらず、片づけにバタバタ。
何でこんなに段取り悪いんだか・・・

何とか準備も終わり？みんなで記念撮影とかしながら時間を過ごす
トラックが来てから、荷物を積み込み最後のお別れ。






３週間も一緒に生活したから、本当さみしかった。

何だかんだ言って、男くさい連中だけど、ニコニコして爽やかだったな。


The day of saying "good bye" to Sli Lankan guys

We moved out and stayed at a building where people who belong to cleaning section last night.
I prepared the small activity that we can share our culture. We are both, Japanese group and
Sli Lankan, showed the traditional dance and music.

I think we all like this event.

In this early morning, it was raining.
That was the main reason that we moved out out of University campus.
It is because their tent need to be dried to be light weight since they need to take a air plane
soon after they went back to Tokyo today.

Kimura-san who was our bus driver during their stay, took us the campus, and they started
moving baggages to the truck. Even though they packed up everything yesterday, they took
a long time...what a bad preparation.

Finally, they finished loading, and we took a group photo.

It was rally sad to say "good bye" because we had been together for 3 weeks.

I liked their smiling a lot.

石巻に滞在している間、石巻から車で40分程走った所にある女川町という場所に行った。

町は一部を残し壊滅。15メートル～20メートルの波が来たと言われている。
家の二階に避難した人や、ビルの上に登った人も流され、高台に位置している病院（下の写真を撮った場所）の
駐車場に避難した人達も第3波で流されてしまったらしい。

　　自分の立っているこの場所も、第3波で飲みこまれた。

　　の海底が見えたという。

まだここでは自衛隊の捜索活動が続いており、まだまだボランティアが入れる状況ではない。
このような町が、宮城・岩手には数多く残されており、まだまだ復興には気の遠くなる
マンパワーとお金が必要になりそうだ。

We visited Onagawa city which is 40 min drive from Ishinomaki city.

This is the one of the most devastated town in this area.
People who crimed up on the roof or top of the building were swiped away by tunami wave
that was 15m to 20m hight.
Even people who evacuated to the parking lot on the hill where the hospital located were gone.

There are still Japanese self defense force searching bodies, so it is not ready for volunteers
to go and help to clean.

ウッドチップ工場の馬糞撤去を一通り終えて、
先日から民家のお掃除をさせてもらってる。

丁度、土手の手前にあるお家の為、瓦礫が堆積
しており、かなりの量。2日入ってるが、まだかかりそう。




何だかんだ言って、スリランカ政府軍の休憩は
段取りしてたとはいえ、自分の休憩は取れていなく、
随分と疲れがひどい。

丁度と言うと言葉は悪いかもしれないが、台風の影響で
今日の作業は中止。明日も雨の見込みで休みが濃厚。

テントの中で読書と睡眠に励む。


We finished cleaning up wood chip factory couple days ago.
Now, we are working on a person's house since then.

This house is located right front of a bank, so a lot debris are
piled up. We have been working couple days but need more time
to finish.

We, a coordinator from Japan and I, sat up some days off for
Sri Lankans but didn't take any offs for ourselfs.
Very very tired.

Fortunately?, a typhoon is coming towers us, so today's work has
been cancelled and tomorrow might be the same.

Today, it's good time for me to take a rest and read a book.

明日から第3週目に突入。

身体の限界が来ている。
スリランカ政府軍も、口数が少なくなってるし、
よく弱音を吐くようになってきた。

やはり彼等も人間だ。

今日、以前から少しずつ進めていた側溝の掃除が、
一通り終わり、水が開通。流れ始めた時は気持ち良かった。

明日は、以前から進めている、ウッドチップ工場に
積もった馬糞撤去。匂いが尋常じゃない。




明後日は休憩日。力を振り絞るか。。





Week three start from tomorrow.

I'm very tired, and they, Sri Lanka military also seems
like very tired because they don't speak as much as before.
They are also human like everyone else.

We got cleaning ditch, 600m long, done which we've been
working for 5 times so far.
Now, the water started flowing. It was very nice to see
the water flow that was totally stucked 2 weeks ago.

From tomorrow, we will work on cleaning faterlizer that
destroy the wood chip factory with tsunami.
The smell is very very bad
I hope nobody passed out tomorrow

今日は一日休憩を取って、避難所のある石巻湊小学校
に、スリランカ音楽を聞いてもらいに訪問。

スリランカ大使や、ウィッキーさんも来て、成功に終わった
と思う。




来週一杯で帰る予定だったが、スリランカ軍の働きが素晴らしい
のと、アスベスト等の高度な危険性がないことから、あと1週間
延長決定しました。

日本大使館、スリランカ大使館の方も巻き込んで、段取り進めます。


It's been one week since I came here.
What we did so far is

Cleaning parasitic factory by heavy machines for twe days.

Cleaning ditch for two days

Cleaning person's house for twe days

We took a day off and went to Ishinomaki elementary school
to show people Sri Lanka Music.

The ambossoder of Sri Lanka and famous Sri Lanka guy, Wiki san
came over and saw our activity.
It was successfully done.

We are suppose to be back to Tokyo end of next week but
since Sri Lanka Millitaly has been providing the community
a lot of support and contribution, we decided them to stay
here another week.

Now we are working with Japan and Sri Lanka embassy to
let them stay longer.

日本大使館、スリランカ大使館の方も巻き込んで、段取り進めます。

スリランカ政府軍と石巻入りして3日目、
かなり激しい毎日だが、何か日本にいるのにスリランカで
生活してる感じで、かなり楽しい。




日頃、使い方など、日本人には当たり前の物も彼等には
始めてで、毎回説明しながら、生活を進めてる。

英語が話せるのが2人しかいないため、一緒に生活してる日本大使館
の方に、シンハラ語を習いながら、シンハラ語で説明も多々。

かなり上手くなった。

PeaceBoatが用意してくれたバスで、作業の帰りはいつも同じバスで帰る。たいていこんな感じの陽気な感じで歌が始まる。大使館の人曰く、スリランカの公共バスはこんな感じらしい。



It's been 3 day since we came into Ishinomaki and
been crazy busy, but iI am really enjoy being with Sri Lankan.


It's kind fun to explain how our life in Japan is because for all of them
this is first visit.

There are only two persons to speak English, so I need to talk
in sin hara language that I learn from a perso from Japan embassy.

My Sin hara language is getting better.

We usually took the bus that Peace Boat prepared for us, and they sometime sang some songs on the way back. According to a person from Japan embassy, the public bus in Sli Lanca is like this.
