In the last time when I was in Istanbul, I stayed in the Japanese guest house, Tree of Life. This guest house was the best place to meet Japanese travelers and exchange some their experiences. Now, I found that this guest house had been closed due to license problem. I was disappointed it because I expected to see many Japanese travelers in Istanbul and could talk.

前回イスタンブールに到着した際は、Tree of Lifeというヨーロッパ側にある有名日本人宿に10泊もして、久々の日本人同士での交流を楽しんだ思い出があった。残念な事に、その日本人宿はライセンスの問題で春先から閉鎖していて、今回は泊まる事ができなかった。久々に日本人との交流ができると思っていただけにとても残念。



In this time, therefore, I am staying at a person I found on couch surfing, a social web site for travelers to look for a place to stay.
そんなわけで今回滞在してるのはイスタンブールのアジア側。ゲストハウスには泊まらず、カウチサーフィンで知り合ったトルコ人男性、名前はメメチャンにお世話になっている。カウチサーフィンは旅人同士が宿等を提供し合うソーシャルサイトで、オーストラリアでも何度か利用した事がある。


My host is the turkish man, Memecan. He is a turkish archeologist and works at consulting company. We had a lot of good conversation since he was interested in Japanese culture, and I was also curious about many things in turkey.
日本人うけしそうな名前のメメチャンは、名前とは裏腹にイスタンブール大学出のエリートで考古学者。今はコンサルタントの仕事をしているらしい。日本にとても興味を持ってくれていて、滞在中はととも良い交流が出来た。



Memecan's house is in Asia side, so I spent most of the times here. This side is more domestic colors compared to Europe side.
アジア側は歴史的建造物はヨーロッパ側に比べると少ないものの、地元人の生活感があって活気がある。滞在中はマルマラ海沿いを自転車で走りに行ったり、市街地をひたすらウロウロしていた。

It is now middle of spring. New tree leaves have been growing, and looks people are very happy compared to winter. I'm very pleased that I can cycle europe during summer not winter.
It's been good weather since I came here, so I have been itching my feet for cycling.
I overlooked my route again and figured out the best route now. If you have any suggestion, please let me know.
現在春真っ盛り。新緑が綺麗で人の表情もどことなく冬より和やかだ。やっぱり走るのは冬以外に限るとつくづくと感じている。
イスタンブールに来てから天気もずっと良いし、走り出したくてウズウズして仕方が無い。
今回いろいろ工程なんかをよくよく考えに考えた結果、今の第一ルート。途中何回もフェリー移動が入るが、かなり楽しめそうなルートになっているはず。もしご意見ありましたら是非ご連絡下さい。

I will take off tomorrow since i got prepared enough, and my route is set. I met a lot of good and interesting people in last time and this time both in istanbul. It made a good memory. Definitely this city is the number 1 preferred city within big cities I have visited so far. See you Istanbul. I will come back again.
そして出発は明日にした。準備は十分だと思うし、ルートもイメージは着いた。イスタンブールでは前回も今回も出会いに恵まれて本当に良い時間を過ごせた。この街はこれまでに訪れた大きな街の中では一番好きな街なのに間違いは無い。さらばイスタンブール、また来る日まで

Now, I'm in Istanbul. It was very tiring shitting a tiny seat in airplanes for 18hours total. However, i didn't get bad jedlag because the fright in this time was going clockwise.

イスタンブールに戻って参りました。計約18時間の飛行はかなりしんどかったです。でも今回は西回りだったから時差ぼけはほとんどないみたい。




I put all peace of bike together at the Istanbul airport and headed to the center. After cycling awhile, the blue mosque has been appeared. I re-recognized that it is a very beautiful thing.
空港で自転車を組み立てて、シルケジ方向に向かってゆくと正面にブルーモスクが現れ、戻ってきた事を実感した。やはりブルーモスクは威厳があり美しい。


When I first came to Istanbul 4month ago, it was winter. It was cold, cloudy and raining. Those weather made a something special atmosphere in this special place. However, in this time, I'm in middle of spring. The weather is not too cold and warm. Looks the best for cycling.
4ヶ月前にイスタンブールに到着した時は、いつも天気はどんよりで寒いし、スッキリしないイメージだった。あれはあれで、風情があってまぁ良かったけど、今回は春真っ盛り。新緑が瑞々しくて天気もポカポカ。自転車を転がすには最高だ。



I stopped a restaurant and had a world famous Istanbul fish sandwich.
早速途中で見付けたレストランでイスタンブール名物の鯖サンド。



Turkish are very friendly. Some men waved their hands and said hello to me. I had thought before that It was normal people saying hello to me during cycling. After away from islam country for awhile now, those hospitality, especially Islam country feels me very relaxed. I like Islam country very much.
陽気なトルコ人のおじさん達。道ですれ違いに「アリョー」と手を振られたりする。4ヶ月前はこれが当たり前だった。今となるとこのイスラム圏独特の暖かい感じが心地良い。やはりイスラム圏好きだな～

Doing nothing special during my stay in Istanbul. I have a lot of time to rest so do what I originally loaned to do slowly. I haven't had such a long time resting time since I was in Tajikistan.

ダラダラダラダラダラダラとしたイスタンブール生活。やらなけりゃならない事をゆっくりと潰す。こんなゆっくりできるのなんてタジキスタン以来。

Today was the date when I can get my new wheels built. There were an area full of bike shops, near Sorkeci in Istanbul. In this area, Pedal cycle is the best place for long distance cyclists. It looks small shop, but they have variety of things in their stock rooms; XTR, Rims from Europe etc. The price was pretty reasonable. The guy working there were very knowledgeable and speaks English.
今日は待ちに待ったホイールを組んでもらう日。イスタンブールには自転車屋街がシルケジ駅裏辺りにある。この中にあるPedal Cycle、外見はしがない小さな自転車屋だが、倉庫にある品揃えがスゴイ。XTRやらヨーロッパ製のリム、DT 等々。値段もマズマズ。職人のおっちゃんはドイツにも店があるらしく、月2回はドイツに出張してるらしい。この人は英語喋れて意思疎通はかなりスムーズにいく。

The cost only $26,000!! including fee of building, and they did it in one day. There was many more shops around but I think this shop is definitely the best.
これで工賃込みで22,000円！しかもその日のうちにやってくれた。自転車屋街はこの他にも店はいくつもあるが、ここの店が断然長距離サイクリスト向けだと思う。オートリブのスペアパーツ、チューブスなんかも置いてます。




Anyway, this is the most important thing I needed to have done, so basically I'm ready to take off!!
これでイスタンブールでの最大必要事項は完了。後は出発を待つのみ。あぁ～ 楽しみ～

For about the guest house where I'm staying right now, this is a very very famous Japanese guesthouse named "Tree of Life". Almost all guests are from Japan. What made here famous is "share meal", we call SHARE MESHI. I couldn't believe that we can share such a dericiouse popular Japanese food in very reasunabul price here.

今泊まってる宿の事について。泊まっているのは有名日本人宿ツリーオブライフ。ここはカンボジアのタケオ並に日本人率が高い。そして、特筆すべきは、ここのシェア飯。こんなに安くて良いの！って値段で日本並、いやそれ以上の味が毎日楽しめる。素晴らしい！っとしか言いようがない。

In here, Istanbul, seafood is really cheap especially TUNA!! I can buy 1kg for 35TL, about $20. If I can share with some people, one seafood bowl, seafoods on the rice, costs only about $5 !!
ここに来て知ったが、イスタンブールは海鮮物が安い！シモ入りのマグロが35TL/kg(約1600円) みんなでシェアすれば、特大の海鮮丼が約450円くらいで食べられる！！





As long as I stay here, I can enjoy Japanese food everyday, so this place makes me feeling being in Japan. Seems the best place for me to have some rest.
ここにいれば毎日長い間食べられなかった日本料理が楽しめて、海外にいるのを忘れてしまう。長期の人には特にオススメです。

Woke up 3:55am. Why? I need to leave here at 4:30am because I found that the ferry would leave 7:30am a port; the distance from Bursa to the port is about 27km which I take in 2 hours.

朝3時55分起床。何でこんなに早く？理由はブルサからのフェリーが7時30分。ブルサから港までが27キロ離れてる。1時間前には着きたいから逆算して、4時30分にはブルサを出発しなくちゃならなくなる。ちなみに1日2便らしく朝の次は18時のみ。


After I found this ferry time schedule last night, started packing up and fixed my puncture that I found on my rear right before going to bet. Thus I went to my bed 11pm so couldn't sleep enough.
前日夜にこの事実を知ってバタバタ準備を初め、パンクしてたのを直したり結局寝たのは11時。かなり寝不足。


Started cycling before sun-rise so no one walking in the city. Of cause cycled with my head light. Then 6:30am arrived to the port. THIS IS MY WEST END OF ASIA!!
早朝のシーーーンとした空気の中、ライトを頭に着けて走った。そして6時30分、グゼリヤリ港に到着。ここがアジア最西端である！



I thought I would think to feel "I did 25,100km...!! ". However, I didn't. it was just like normal day.
ここまで25,100km 大分長い距離を走って来たな～ なんかあっという間だったな～、 な～んて感慨にふけるかと思いきや、やっぱりこの先もまだあるし、結構サッパリしたもんだ。





Getting the ferry; cost 25TL + 5TL for my bike. It was very comfortable ferry like business class of an air plane. I fell in sleep for one hour.
フェリーに乗り込む。25TL + 5TL(自転車) 中はすごく豪華で飛行機内みたい。あまりに快適なんでガッツリ寝てしまった。起きたらもうイスタンブール。丁度1時間半。






The ferry reached to the port of Istanbul. The blue mosque started appearing my sight. A ferry crosses Bosporus channel. A tourist boat runes on sea. Nice fancy cafes..Then now I was feeling I crossed all Asia. THIS IS EUROPE!!!
入港するフェリーからブルーモスクが見えた時は、さすがにゾクゾク鳥肌がたった。ボスポラス海峡を周る観光船や、ボスポラスのアジア側を行き来するフェリーが水上をゆったり往来してる。海辺には釣りをする人達がいて、奥にはオシャレなカフェやレストランが見える。こっからはもうヨーロッパなんだ。



I heard an announcement so went back to my bike. Now I'm in Europe. The atmosphere was definitely changed, I thought. Seems this is the feeling of Europe...??
船内アナウンスが流れ、自転車に戻って船を降りる。外に出ると、ザワザワとした雰囲気にカモメがそこら中を飛んでいる。やっぱり雰囲気が対岸とはかなり違う。ヨーロッパの匂いなのか？なんだろうね。

Bursa, a big town of southern coast of Marmara sea, is about 25km inland from the coast line. This southern coast will be my west end of Asia; other side(North side) is Europe!! Istanbul.

とうとうイスタンブールをマルマラ海挟んで対岸(実際は25キロ内陸) にある大きな街、ブルサに着いた。ここから25キロ北の地点が自分にとってのアジア最西端となる。対岸はもうヨーロッパです。

The rim is okay still. After this town, Bursa, I will be cycling only 25km to the coast which is my End Point of Asia. Then I will take a ferry to Istanbul. Thus, I don't need to camp for awhile. It's a bit sad but also better because it's been raining for long time.
何とか破れたリムも大丈夫そう。ここを出たら数時間も走ればマルマラ海にたどり着き、フェリーに乗ってイスタンブールinする。なので、ブルサinした今、もうしばらく野宿ナシ。なんだか寂しいような。でも、カッパドキアを出てからは、結局天候は常に最低で寒いし雨降るし、あまり楽しくキャンプはできなかったから丁度良い。


In Bursa, I met a nice family. When I reached to this town, it was getting dark. I was having Chi break at cafe. A young guy came to me, and we talked for awhile. Then he asked me to stay his home. It was almost completely dark, so I was pleased to meet him.
ブルサでは良い出会いがあった。街に入った当日、夕方カフェでチャイブレイク中、そのカフェ近くに住んでる青年 ジキ君と知り合って家に止めてもらった。


When I got to his home, a lot of kids came out from inside. He had a such a big family; 11 sister and brother!! I was impressed how mother worked hard and kids followed their parents, very nice boys and girls.
家まで行くと中からゾロゾロ子供達が出て来てビックリ。何と11人兄弟。母さんずいぶん頑張りましたね。男ばっかで騒がしい家だったけど、親の言う事を良く聞く子達で関心させられました。




Next day, I left their home and headed to city center. On the way, I stopped a place called Jumarkuzuk. This is a old Osman village and is a local tourist place. I liked there atmosphere a lot.
翌日、彼等の家をおいとました後、ジュマルクズクなる村に立ち寄った。ここはオスマントルコ時代の集落がそのまま残されてる場所で、言って見ればトルコの小江戸川越。すごく雰囲気があって歩くのが楽しい。ローカル観光地らしく地元民がほとんど。露天のおばちゃん達は寒いから服を着込んでて、とてもカワイイかった。














Now, I'm staying in city center of Bursa. I could go to Istanbul directory, but it was raining. I decided to stay here and look around until the weather get better.
そんでもって現在はブルサ市内滞在中。さっさとイスタンブールに行っちゃいたいが、雨で延期。やっぱしイスタンブールinは気持ちよくしたいからね。


Bursa is pretty good place to discover things and to see the local life. In here, what I liked most was Hamam, a Turkish sauna, which has over 500 years history.
そんなブルサ。案外見所が多い。街は人の生活感がすごく感じられて、町歩きが楽しかった。中でも500年以上の歴史があるというハマム(トルコ風呂)は良かった。というか、面白かった。








Turkish sauna is my first time. I wanted to remove all my tiredness and dirt from my body so decided to go.
トルコ風呂初めてな私、長旅の赤や疲れを落とすべく、アカスリからマッサージまでフルコースを頼んだ。



In inside, there were some small dressing rooms. I took my cloth off and got a towel that they gave me around my waist. A guy took me a main sauna hall, and I was laid down on marble table. Then waited until I got sweat. A guy came back and started working. All I needed to do is to follow what he asked me. Massage was a bit painful for me so I couldn't shut my mouth. If someone heard my voice from outside, they might have thought we were doing something strange. 30min washing all of my body, it got done. I got towel all around of my body and laid down on break room. It was very relaxing.
中に入ると、個室の脱衣所が並んでいて、その中で裸になって下にタオルをまかされる。そんで、メインのホールに行くと、真ん中に大理石でできたデカイ台があって、この上で寝かされる。ジワジワ汗をかくまで待つ。おもむろにヒゲのおっちゃんが入って来て、このおっちゃんに身を任せるまま、アカスリからマッサージ、体の洗浄まで全てやってもらう。おっちゃんは力が強くて、マッサージは少し痛かった。外から声だけ聞いたら、変な想像されそうなくらい、「あぁ おっちゃん！」「あぃ！」「が！」とか変な声が沢山出た。30分くらいやってもらって、タオルでグルグル巻にされた後、休憩室に行って昼寝。これが気持ち良かった。



Anyway, I got all my body fleshed now and ready to cross finish line of Asia. The weather forecast said that it will be better tomorrow. End of Asia part is coming and i will be istanbul soon!!!
そんなんで身体スッキリ アジアゴール準備完了。明日からは天候回復の予報。アジアに別れを告げ、いざアジア最終章 イスタンブールへ！！

??? I felt something wrong on my front break. I stopped and checked. Nothing..... Then started cycling, still strange. Stopped again and checked. Oh Nooooo!!! My front rim got a crack.

ん？？ 何か前のブレーキがおかしい。。。止まって確認。何もない。走ってブレーキをかけてみるとやっぱ変。再度確認。ん！！ ナニーーー リムが破れるーー！！



I was expecting this because I cycled so many KM without any fatal problems. Fortunately, it didn't get completely cracked open, so I can make to get to Istanbul.
やっぱこれだけ走って来て何も無い方がオカシイ。一応ギリギリ崩壊まではとどまってる感がある。一応空気圧下げてと。あまり負荷のかからないように良い道を選んでと。



This is the crack after couple of days... It's bigger and bigger. Really hope to get to Istanbul.
この亀裂、日お追うごとに広がって本当ドキドキ。2日後の写真。イスタンブールまでたどり着けんのか？？

Top three of what I hate while riding my bike are No.1 head wind, No.2 raining, Mo.3 Traffic.
When those come together in same time, it's a big challenging how you keep your sprit to go forward. In this time, those came same time and with coldness. I hate cycling in this condition.

自転車を乗ってる間、一番嫌いなもの、1番「向い風」、2番「雨」、3番「車」、この3つが揃う時、真の心の強さが試される。が、今回は寒さも加わって、さすがに心をバキバキに砕かれました。もうイヤだーーーー


After Gyoreme, the weather became worse and worse as i expected. The wind was blowing very hard. I was almost blew out of the road many times. From next day, the cold cold rain started. Its smash my face so pretty painful.
ギョレメを出発して翌日から予想通り天気は下り坂。想定外の猛烈な向い風、アナトリアの風はアナドレません。何度も転倒しかけました。翌日からは豪雨、バチバチと正面から遅いかかって来る冷たい雨。


Furthermore, i got annoying police check somehow. This had been happened before so was my second in Turkey. I don't know why....I guess I look an Afghani illegal immigrant because many people so far asked me "Are you from Afghanistan", even in Iran. However, why people think as a traveler of Afghanistan even though I have a bicycle with a lot of stuff....I've never seen such Afghani.
さらに追い討ちをかけんばかりに、意味もなく警察に止められパスポートチェック。トルコ入って2回目。今回は警察署まで連れてかれた。普通トルコでパスポートチェックなんてされるの？ もしかしたら自分があまりにアフガニスタン人に見えるから？ トルコに入ってから良くアフガニスタン人に間違われる。でも普通に考えて、アフガニスタン人はこんなフルロードの自転車乗ってないよね。。


I didn't give up by this awful conditions for couple of days. The weather got better. However, temperature dropped dramatically. Seems this is the beginning of winter. Highest temperature of a day is about 2℃ (36℉). I hate cold finger and toes. I should get out of Anatolia as soon as possible.
そんな最低の悪天候を辛抱して2日。翌日から天候は回復。現在アンカラ南西約60km。が、、、どうやらアナトリアに冬が到来したらしく、日中でも気温は2度。指先がかじかむ感覚、大嫌い。低い山も雪化粧。こりゃオチオチ走ってられませんな。さっさとマルマラ海に行きましょーー
