Now, I'm in Tirana, the capital of Albania. I normally avoid a big city but in this time stopped here. The reason was to meet Mr. Sasayama. He is my father's age but still on long distance tour. I've met him in Japan and known that he would start cycling from Milano, Italy to Azerbaijan. We exchanged some emails and successfully got bumped in Tirana.

というわけでティラナ。アルバニアの首都である。いつも大きな町に行くのは避けているが今回は別。佐々山さんに会う為だ。佐々山さんは還暦を過ぎても現役で世界を走るサイクリストで、日本で会った事があった。以前からイタリアのミラノを出発してアゼルバイジャンまで走るのは知っていて、どこかですれ違うと予想していたので、ちょくちょく連絡はさせて頂いていた。そして今回ティラナで合流に成功。1日だけだが旅の話なんかをして過ごす事が出来た。

He is going east and I'm going west. We hoped each other for our safety and successfully completed our trip. he left here a day before I leave. Japanese baby boomers are really energetic. I'm very impressed.
これから佐々山さんは東に進む。お互いに良い旅を願って見送らさせて頂いた。本当日本の団塊世代は元気がある。


I stayed a night extra. I didn't go out except for buying some food. This is my resting day. I was a bit shocked that the life of Tirana was very different from other side of this country. There were many expensive cars and shops. Seems all Albania money are coming into this city. I will be heading to Kosovo.
自分はティラナでもう一泊。外には食料の買出し以外は全く出ず、ひたすらダラダラした。ティラナはこれまで見て来たアルバニアと全く違っていて少しショックだった。物に溢れ、高級車やブティックが並ぶ。きっと国の金の殆どが集まって来るのだろう。これからコソボに向かう

In Albania, there were cafes and bars everywhere even in small villages. People including young men hang out there from morning and drink coffee or alcohol. I was wondering the reason. I found the reason when I was in Berat. In Albania, they have very high unemployment; 30%- 40%, and this number is even higher among young.
アルバニアには本当に沢山の飲み屋がある。しかもどこも人が入っていて、老若男女朝からコーヒーや酒を飲んでいる。平日の昼間から全く悠長なもんだと思っていた。よくよく調べてみるとこれには訳があって、アルバニアの失業率は30%とも40%とも言われていて、その中に占める若者層はさらに高いらしい。


In this economical situation, many people kill their time in the bars or cafes. However, I saw many young working at farms as well. They must have had same situation but work honestly. I felt I have learn from them and thought I should to be working honestly against Japanese social situation when I go back.
こんな状況下で若者達は昼間から酒場やカフェに行き時間を過ごすらしい。ただ、そんな中で真面目に畑を耕していたり草を刈っている若い人達も沢山見て来た。彼等を見る度に自分も帰ったら自分の置かれている環境に背を向けずに頑張らないとと思わせられる物が多々あった。そんな意味でアルバニアを多少だが走って得た物は多かったと思う。


Anyway, I'm in still Albania. As I wrote before, I'm in Berat. This is an old ottoman town so there are many ottoman style buildings left. I have visited some ottoman towns so far, but this place was the best. It's because their old buildings were still kept in old. Some town I visited had buildings looking over-reconstructed.
っとまだアルバニアでの走行はまだ残っているのだが、現在はベラット。オスマン時代の街並みが残されていて、ここは補修はしているが、姿形が古めかしいまま保全されていて、とても良い雰囲気だった。これまで訪れたオスマン時代の街並みの中では一番だろう。

I'm going north instead of going south towered Greece which was my original plan. I changed my plan because i found more interest on cycling mountains in this area. Many many interesting places can be found as many places as I researched. It's hard to decide the route but fun to make it as well.
ここから一路北上する。以前の予定ではギリシャのペロポネソス半島を一周するつもりだったが、この辺りの山々をさらに走りたくなったので予定を変更した。本当、ヨーロッパは調べれば調べる程見所が出て来てルート選びが困るがそれも楽しい。

I despised my way of Albania. There were so many pot holes everywhere on the road. In any secondary roads, the condition got awful. I couldn't belive that the road I had picked were secondary free way that had been shown in thick yellow color on my map. However, the senary along this road was breathtaking unexpectedly.

アルバニアの道を侮りすぎていた。主要な幹線道路も穴だらけで良いとは全くいえないが、それを外れると全くオフロード。これが地図上で濃く塗られている道かと疑いたくなるくらい。が、そんなオフロード、走るのは大変だったが景色は最高だった。ここでもアルバニアを全く侮っていた。こんな綺麗な山谷があるとは思ってもみなかった。

In inland of Albania, there were many mountains and not many choices to cross. I had researched the way to cross this mountains towered Berat while I was in Ohrid. However, after cycling in such awful road condition, I had started concernig the way. Sometimes, google map shows unexisted roads. I was thinking the road crossing mountains I found on google map could be unexisted. I asked many locals about this and the result was negative; it was not existed. There were no any other road to cross the mountain, at least on my map. Some locals knew the way of crossing mountains. It was not on my map nether on google map. I kept asking locals about new way and finally found the way which seemed very hard work.
アルバニアの内陸部は高い山が多くて道があまりない。内陸部から山を越えてベラットに抜けるルートはGoogleで調べていたが、アルバニアを走ってみて、そもそもその道が存在するのかが不安に思えて来た。まず、買った地図上にその道は存在しないし、国境にあったアルバニアの地図上にも載っていなかった。GoogleMAPを使うとまれに存在しないルートが表示される。このボコボコアルバニアを走りながら疑心暗鬼になり始め、何人ものローカルに確認しながら進んだ。結果的にやはりそんな道は存在しなかった。道がないとなると山を越える道は他には無い。地図上には。しかし、それがあるらしい。何人かのローカルはその道を知っているようだった。その道との分岐に近づくにつれて、地元の人達もその道に詳しくなり、大変そうだが何とかベラットには行けそうだ。


It was of cause very hard. It remind me the way of Ijen crater in jawa, indonesia where I pushed my bike up. Furthermore, it started raining. The road got muddy and slippery. I felt down and got mud on my cloth. I felt very miserable. At the end, after all, the weather got better, and blue sky had been shown up.
そしてその道は本当に大変だった。インドネシアのジャワ島でイジェンクレーターに自転車で登って行った時の悪路を思い出す。しかも雨が降って来て道はドロドロツルツル。ずっこけて身体もドロドロになるし散々だった。が、峠に着く頃には雨が上がって正に雨降って地が固まった。

I could see the sun setting into adrian sea.
この峠からはアドリア海に沈む太陽を見る事が出来た。

このルートに入る手前で会った兄さん達。いろいろな人にルートを確認してくれた。本当ありがとう。

Camped out at the pass and went down next morning. Of cause the way was still bad.
峠で一泊し、翌日は山を下った。下りもボコボコ。




There were many small villages in mountains. Some houses were very similar to the one I have seen in Bulgaria. Seems there were no any cyclists on this route, so people in villages looked at me very curiously.
アルバニアは山の上の方にも結構人が住んでいて、小さな村か多い。ブルガリアで見たような石の屋根の家を良く見かけた。この道を自転車で登って来る人間はいないのか、村で会う人達にすごい物珍しい目で見られた。





Finally, I arrived to Berat. Look nice place to chill out.
そして目的地のベラット到着～ なかなか良い感じな雰囲気です。

Welcome to Albania, ようこそアルバニア



Such an easy processing at the border as always in this region. Just stopped at a gate with my bicycle and gave my passport to get stamps for off and in.
手続きはいつものごとくものの数分。自転車に乗りながらパスポートを渡して、出国と入国手続き完了。


Albania. My first impression of this country was that Albania was a bit rougher than other countries so far in this region. Streets have been damaged badly so dust came out after big trucks passed. People don't understand Russian. People sometimes talked to me in Italian. Seems there were many Italian tourists. I remembered central Asia after seeing how people acted. They were very curious people, especially children, they were sometimes extreme. Small kids like till 12 years old were okay. They are cute and harmless. However, a group of boys like over 12 years till 15 years were a bit sometime annoying. I think tour cyclists know this feeling.
アルバニアだ～ 何となくアルバニアはゴチャゴチャしていて埃っぽいな。。それもそのはず道が悪い。穴だらけ。よそ見してなんていられない。アルバニアではロシア語は通じない、むしろイタリア語で話しかけられたりする。それだけイタリア人観光客が多いって事だろうか。アルバニアに入って中央アジアを思い出した。人がやたらとガツガツ来る。特に子供達。やたらと観光客に反応する。小学生低学年くらいまでなら可愛らしいが、高学年から中学生くらいまでの男子グループは本当にウザイ。これは自転車旅行者なら理解できるだろう。





For cost of live, it's almost same as others. You can eat a meal at a restaurant in $2. Vegetables were generally cheap. Of cause, it's their main industry.
アルバニアの物価はマケドニアよりさして変わらないようだ。レストランで200円くらいのセットが食べられる他、野菜なんかはすごく安い。やはり農・畜産業がメインだけある。

Now, I'm going to Berat. It was unexpectedly very hard work to get there.
これからまず向かうはベラット。ここからが大変だった
