I took off right away after coming back from Beaune. It's because I have only one month left in western Europe. The Chengen agreement makes a big headache. I need to get out of western Europe by 15th of Sep. Basically I can stay only 3 month in Europe except some countries in eastern Europe such as Balcan countries where I have been few month ago. モンテリマールに戻ってからはその日のうちにすぐ出発した。何せヨーロッパでの滞在期限が迫ってきているからゆっくりもしていられない。この縛りの原因はシェンゲン協定という忌々しいルールのおかげで、自分が許された滞在は9月15日まで。あと約1ヶ月でシェンゲン領域外のモロッコへ渡らなければならない。簡単に説明すれば日本人が許されたヨーロッパ(自分が通って来たバルカン諸国は別)での滞在期限は3ヶ月。シェンゲン協定の詳細を説明すると長くなるので、興味のある方はこちら。

Anyways, after Montelimar, I kept going down along Rhone river. In a day after, I stopped by Pont du Gard, a old bridge for water passage during Roman empire.
さて、ローヌ川に沿ってしばらく南下して最初の見所ポン・デュ・ガルド, Pont du Gard。これはローマ時代の水道橋。





It was a quite big bridge and impressing how ancient people built this.
良くこんな巨大な橋を昔の人は創れたもんです。ローマ人の建築技術はすごいですな。


Passing through forests, agricultural lands and towns a day after day. It was easy to find a camp spot along but a bit boring compare to cycling Italy or Switzerland.
この辺りも引き続き森・畑・町の繰り返し。野宿に全く困らないのは良いが、イタリアやスイスに比べると正直味気ない。






A cyclist i met on my way suggested me not to go along southern coast line because there would be more resorts and touristy.
I also wanted to have more excitements so got into inland.
そんな状況を解決すべく、ニーム手前からはやや内陸を進んだ。フランス南部を走ったサイクリストに南部の海岸線は面白くないと聞いていたし、この時期の沿岸は行楽客ですごい事になってそうなので避けたかったのもある。

From Bedarieux to Mazamet, there were a bike pass for 80km built on old rail road.
途中、Bedarieuxという町からMazametという町まで80km 古い線路を使ったバイクパスを通る





Carcassonne. Pyrenees is not far from this town.
さらに内陸を南西に進んでカルカソンヌ。カルカソンヌの先にはピレネー山脈も見える。

On the way down from the east side of mountain in Carcassonne, I could see the Castle in Carcassonne center.
山から降りる途中からカルカソンヌの城塞都市が見えた時は感動的だった。




The castle was beautiful when I saw from outside. However, the inside of castle was horribly touristy.
外からみると良いのだけれど内部は日本の初詣並みに人だらけ。

I was very frustrated by such a touristic castle and came out in one hour.
これにはドン引きして1時間も見て出て来てしまった。


It seemed there were Japanese tourists. I found some Japanese words. It was funny. Why they use the flag of japanese navy during world war.
日本人観光客も多いのか日本語が。でも変、しかも国旗が何故に大日本海軍。。。

So far, I cycled 90km to 100km average for a day. It was not my preferred distance; 80km is good distance for me, so I was a bit tired now. Unfortunately I still need to keep going even though there is Pyrenees waiting for me.
ここまで1日90～100kmペースで飛ばしてきた。あぁ～しんどい。これからピレネー越えなのに。それでも走らないといけないんです。

I left my bicycle at the hotel in Montelimar, and we took a train to Beaune, a town in Burgoyne region. In this region, the very high quality and expensive grapes for wine have been grown. There was the road where many famous vin yards located along. This road was supposed to be the world famous wine road.
Kazu san really likes wine, and I'm interested in wine making after working at the winery in Australia. That was the reason he took me to Beaune. By the way, we are NOT GAY. I hope no one think that way...

和さんと共に向かったブルゴーニュ地方の Beaune ボーヌ。この一帯はフランスを代表するワインが生産されている。ここには特級道路なるものもあってこの道路に沿って超高級ワインに使われる葡萄が育てられている。和さんは大のワイン好き。自分もオーストラリアでワイン生産を手伝ったのがきっかけでワインには興味がある。
といったわけで今日和さんにここまで連れて来てもらった。ちなみに私達はゲイではない。どちらもストレートですので勘違いなさらぬようお願いします。


Looking around Beaune. The monastery where people used as hospital as well was the main tourist interest. The color of the roof was pretty.
まずはボーヌの町観光。中心にある元修道病院が有名らしい。屋根が可愛らしい。





I liked also houses in the village. Many houses with same triangle shape roof made such a unique view.
自分はそれよりもこの一帯に共通する町の雰囲気が気に入った。三角の屋根の家が立ち並んでいてこじんまりとして落ち着いた雰囲気。






We took a tour to visit some famous vin yeards. Actually, they all look same if no one tell you.
そしてツアーを使って葡萄畑見学。実際、何も言われなければ普通の葡萄畑。

This vin yeard is Romanel Conti. They produce only 5000 bottles a year. It's very difficult to see a bottle. If you want to buy, it costs €6000, about $8000. Normal wine at a shop in France cost €4 - €6.
これがあのロマネコンティが生産される畑。ロマネ伯爵の畑です。年に5000本しか生産されない幻のワイン。1本80万円～ 。ちなみにフランスで一般的に売られているのは€4～€6。




I don't understand why people want to buy this. As my opinion, wine should be more casual, being able to drink every meal. The price is not made by taste but only bland.
正直自分はワインは庶民的な飲み物で、毎日食事と一緒に飲む気軽な飲み物。この辺りのワインは高すぎて理解できない。この恐ろしい値段は実際味ではなくてブランド名なのに間違いない。


At the end of tour, we went to wine tasting. Good wine but I didn't buy of cause.
最後はワインテースティング。美味いちゃ～美味しかった。もちろん自分には買う勇気はありませんでした。


Kazu san and I hanged out for two whole days. If he didn't come, I had never thought to come here. I was very pleased what he did to me. Now, we are going different direction. He is going to Paris, and I'm going back to Montelimar. I always felt lonely after having fun with friends.
丸2日一緒に過ごした和さんとはここでお別れ。和さんが来なけれはブルゴーニュには絶対来ていなかっただろう。本当ありがとうございました。この後和さんはパリに戻り、自分は自転車を残してあるモンテリマールに戻る。ミラノで友人に会った時もそうだったが、別れた後は本当さみしい。

I cycled along Rhone river after crossing a border and went south. There were no mountains but only hills and no feeling of Alps anymore. The roads became without bike passes in many parts, so I need now more carefully to choose my route.

フランスに入ってからはローヌ川に沿って南下開始。フランスに入ると山が丘になってアルプスの面影はもうない。スイスのように分かり易い自転車ルートも整備されていないので、道選びには気を使わないといけない。






On my way, I stopped by Vienne. I pitched my tent at a camp ground, left my luggages and took a train to Lyon with my bicycle.
途中、Vienneという町のキャンプ場にテントを残してそこから電車で自転車ごとリヨン観光に行ってみた。

Old center of Lyon was like Dubrovnik, orange top buildings. I was also looking forward to visiting some nice bike shops I found online. However, all shops I went had been closed. This is France. People take a long holiday during summer, especially August. There were many shops closed for same reason in Lyon, so new center, no many tourists, had been very quiet.
リヨンの旧市街はオレンジ色の屋根が続いていてドブロブニクを思い出した。今回リヨンに来たのは観光する目的もあったけれど、自転車屋を見て周るのも楽しみにしていた。しかし、調べていた店4件全部19日まで休み。さすがフランス、ホリデーシーズン、特に8月は小中規模の店はどこも長い夏休みを取るようです。リヨンも観光客のいない新市街はどこかガランとしてました。






In Montelimar, 120km south of Vienne, I had another person to see. Kazu is like my older brother. He took care of me since we first met couple years before..
Vienne からさらに120km南下し、Montelimarでも再会を予定している人がいた。地下足袋サイクリストの和さん。出発前に始めてお会いしてから面倒みてもらっていた兄貴分。


He had a summer holiday and took short trip to France. He saved some times to see me during his trip and came see me from Paris by TGV. As I said, he was like my older brother. He took all bills while I was with, so I didn't need to pay any expense.
今回、日本のお盆休みを利用してフランスに遊びに来たついでにわざわざTGVに乗って会いに来てくれた。気前の良い和さんにはホテルから食事まで一緒にいる間に発生した費用全て面倒見てもらってしまった。

Kazu works at Rice wine maker, Sake. He brought a lots of Sake bottles from Japan. I had quite a lot with him. This Sake, Omoiyari, is supposed to be the best seller in Hokkaido as he said.
日本酒メーカーで働く和さんは日本から何本も日本酒を持って来ていて、久々に日本酒をたらふく飲んだ。

That day, we talked about after my journey till mid night. We were supposed to spread tomorrow; he was going to north and I was going to south. However, I changed my plan when he asked me "Do you want to come?". I was so lucky to go for free!!! For tomorrow, we are going to Beaune, a world famous town for wine.
この日はこれからの人生について語るに語って夜がふけていきました。自分はこれからさらに南下、和さんはブルゴーニュに行く予定だった。しかし和さんに「一緒にブルゴーニュ行く？」の一言から予定変更。翌日から図々しくも急遽、ブルゴーニュ地方に行く事になったのであります。もちろん和さんは全部費用を負担してくれました。どのようにお礼をしてよいか。いずれ出世払いさせて頂きます。

After entering Corsica, the price of everything became very expensive especially agricultural products and processed foods. For example, 1kg of tomato which was €1 in Sicilia became €2.5 in here. 100g of ham that was €2 in Sicilia got €4. If I purchase a lot at a store, the total price gets €20 easily.

コルシカは物価が半端なく高い。特に野菜や加工品。例を言えば、トマトがイタリアでは€1だったのが、コルシカは€2.5。生ハムは100gで€2くらいだった品が€4もする。大量に買い物すると€20とか行ってしまう。



France is a country where people put strongly effort on their holiday, this is my image, so there were a lot of holiday tourists in Corsica. I saw many family campers, backpackers and also cyclists everyday.
そして世界一余暇に力を注ぐフランス人(自分のイメージ)、そんなお国のこの島はこの時期家族連れや学生バックパッカーで溢れかえっています。サイクリストもすごく多くて毎日何組ものサイクリストとすれ違いました。

All Camping grounds were very crowded, キャンプ場はどこもかなりの混み合いよう。


I wondered why so many. There were not many in Sardegna where frequent ferry connections from France was.
何でこんなに人が来るのか。サルデーニャへもフランスからフェリーが頻繁に発着しているのにこんなに観光客はいなかった。


I found the reason after I started cycling along west coast.
その理由は西海岸線を進み始めてわかった。

All west coast line was really beautiful I've never seen such beautiful coast line in my life.
ほぼ西海岸全部、こんなに綺麗な海岸線を見た事がないと言って良い程 景色が素晴らしい。

Around Porto. This place, Porto bay has become a UNESCO site. The red cliff was amazing.
まずはポルト周辺。この辺りはポルト湾として世界遺産になっている。切り立った赤い断崖がすごい

The part of that looks thumb up. The road goes around this peninsula. The beach of this part was especially beautiful. The water was so clear.
コルシカ島の親指を立てたような形をした部分西側。断崖沿いを道が半島を一周している。この半島沿いの海は透明度が高くてすごく良かった。








I will say this island was a packet of outdoor activities like hiking, cannoning, rock climbing, cycling, fishing, swimming etc... This is why French people like this island for sure.
登山、キャニオニング、クライミング、サイクリング、釣り、海水浴、他等々。この島にはありとあらゆるエンターテイメントが凝縮されていた。これだけ盛り沢山な島だからこそフランス人が良く来るんだと思う。


However, on the other hand, the thing Corsica didn't have but other islands I have visited last a month was I say "Smell of human life". When I visited Sicilia and Sardegna, there were normal life of people like people going markets and buy stuff, people sell tomatoes in the streets, etc... In here, Corsica, it seems, for me, every things for tourists. I will say "The Tourist island"
一方で残念だったのは全く地元の生活感がなかった所。シチリアやサルデーニャであったような人間臭さは全く無く、内陸も海岸線沿も正にTHE 観光地だった。


I guess this island had had local life before like others. However, it had been changed by tourists inference.
元々はここにもローカルな生活があったのだろうけれど、観光客の渦に呑み込まれてしまった島のように感じられた。


Anyways, even though I found some negative perspective of this island, the scenery of Corsica was amazing enough to eliminate those. I have been cycling major islands, Sicily, Sardegna and Corsica in Mediterranean ocean last a month. Each of them have had unique characteristic, so there were always some thing interesting every day.
そおは言っても、それを打ち消すくらいこの島の景色はすごいと思う。約1ヶ月シチリア、サルデーニャ、コルシカ島と地中海島々ツアーをして来たが、それぞれに特色があって毎日めじろうしだった。


From now, I will get back to the main part of Europe. The next fun will be Alps. The second half of my Europe tour will be started.
そして、ここからヨーロッパのメインパートに戻ります。ヨーロッパ後半スタートです。続いてはアルプス！

From S. Teresa, a town in north end of Sardegna, Moby lines runs a ferry 4 times a day to Bonifacio, a town in south end of Corsica.

サルデーニャの北端にあるS. TeresaからMoby Linesが毎日4便 コルシカ島の最南端の町Bonifacioにフェリーを出している。

The price was €25 included bicycle. It took only 40min so I thought it was expensive. I think its because this is ferry for tourists.
チケットは自転車入れて€25。40分しかない船旅の割には高い。多分、利用するのがほとんど観光客だからだろう。


Corsica, コルシカ島入りです。


this island is very close to Italy but belongs to France. People said "Bonjour" at a super market. It remembered me I was in France. The town I first arrive, Bonifacio looked a place where very rich people own houses. There were many big cruisers and yachts.
ここはイタリアに近いけれどフランスです。スーパーに行って、ボンジュ～ルと言われてフランス入りを実感しました。このBonifacioという町、豪華クルーザーやヨットが入江に停泊していて、すごくリッチな感じの町でした。


This island is also rocky mountainous island like Sardegna. However, the difference was they didn't have much farms and agriculture lands. This island was more densely forested. Most of part was national parks.
それでコルシカ島はというと。サルデーニャと似て岩がゴロゴロな山岳島と見れます。ただ、コルシカ島は農畜産はあまり盛んではないのかうっそうとした森が大半で、内陸はほとんど全て国立公園になってますね。

Bigs were everywhere in the mountains. They looked wild. I couldn't stop imaging of bacon every time I saw them.
ブタだらけ。野豚です。完全に野良です。ブヒブヒそこら中をウロウロしています。お腹がいつもペコペコなのでこのブタ達がベーコンに見えて仕方ありませんでした。

Then I bought Corsica pig bacon. It cost €16/kg so was not cheap. However, the taste was amazing.
さっそくお店で買いました。コルシカ豚のベーコン。€16/kgだから安くわないけれど、お味はトレビア～ン。
