Turimakshi～everyone

I'm now in Skaruno Hatta air port in Jakarta. Waiting for the time to transfer local air to Bali island. It's really humid and hot here.

I could check my big baggage in successfully here. I expected extra charge for couple of my huge baggages because the weight of it was 1.5 times as much as the baggage instruction was. I think it was depending on the person at the counter.

Anyway, I will be in Bali in few hours.


皆さん、トルマカシ～
今、ジャカルタのスカルノハッタ空港で、バリ島行の飛行機を待ってます。しかし蒸し暑い。季節が逆戻りした感じ。

心配してた、超過手荷物料もとられずラッキー。制限値の1.5倍くらい重さがあったから、かなり心配してたんだけど、かなり緩かった。多分、カウンターの人次第なんだろうね。

とにもかくにも、あと数時間後にはバリ島です。

The time has begun !!
I will take off to the world tour tomorrow finally. Will be in Bali at the beginning of Dec.
Thank you all who gave me a lot of wish. See you all in Japan again after couple of years, and hope see you all not in Japan on the way.

I will have a lot of fun and see and feel different world as much as I like.

明日いよいよ飛び立ちます。明後日にはバリ島到着です。

出発前に世話をやいてくれた皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。また、数年後に会いましょう！そして、日本国外の友人達、道中会えたら良いね。

世界を見て感じて、思う存分楽しんで来ます。

Packed up everything and Ready to go.

I just found that I've never mentioned why I came up this idea; bike around the world.

きずかなかったけど、今まで「自転車世界一周」を思い立った理由を書いてなかったな。

The first I start desiring to travel around the world is when I study in the U.S. We had a lot of international students at college, and I had many opportunity to interact with other culture.
I though "I should see other part of the world", but no idea what bike tour is.

世界を見たくなった発端は、アメリカで学生をしてた時。いろんな国の学生達と交流する中で、こりゃ「世界を見ないといかん」と思うようになったわけ。この時は自転車旅行は頭に全然なかった。

At that time, I was a student and had a goal of my stay in the U.S, improved my English skill and graduate from college. So I did study first.

でもその時は、英語習得の為に、大学を卒業するという大義名分があったから、勉強に集中。

Normally, international students could get one quarter off after taking 3 quarter which is about 3 month. My second year, I took summer off. At that time, i had more courage to travel because my English is good enough to do things by myself.

そんな中でも、休みはあって、留学生は、年間1クォータだけ長期で休めるルールがあった。北米にいるんだから、見なきゃ尊。これは利用しないとでしょ！って事で、2年目にグレイハウンドという大陸横断バスでこの国を見て周ろうと、2ヶ月間パッパーした事があった。

I purchased greyhound, a cross country bus company, 2 month pass and took a road trip. I traveled around the U.S and it was fun. However, I felt little bit busy and wanted to see more things between town and town.

周遊旅行は本当楽しかったけど、少し忙しく感じたのと、移動中の通り過ぎる場所を「もっとゆっくりと見たい」っていうフラストレーションがすごく溜まっていた。

My third year spring, I was also planning to take summer off. The destination was Alaska and Canada, but i didn't decide how how I travel. then suddenly came up this idea, by bicycle. I purchased a cheep mountain bike to do short bike tour as experiment. My first experiment was from Red Wood N.P to Washington state. Since I didn't know much about bike tour, I had a lot if problems; got bad bad knee, easy puncture and etc.
However, I liked it and it was very enjoyable.

3年目の春くらいから夏にアラスカ、カナダを旅する計画をしてたんだけど、でもどうやって？っと毎日考えるうちに、パッ！と"自転車の旅を"っていうアイデアが思い浮かんできた。こん時の事は鮮明に覚えてるな。何か、天から差し込んだ一筋の光みたいな感じ（笑）
これだ！早速やってみよう！って事で、安いマウンテンバイクを購入して、その年の春休み(2週間)に実験的な感じでアメリカ西海岸を850km走ってみた。結果は膝は痛いし、パンクは多発するしでボロボロ。でも、何かすごい自由があって、下り坂のすがすがしさとか、走り終わった後のビールの味は格別、最高に楽しかった。

In that summer, I crossed Alaska and Canada and traveled 7,200km total. Saw many many beautiful scenery and wild life and met a lo of nice people.
Compare to traveling by a bus or A car, I felt seeings better view and felt better taste of meals and meet more interesting people.

そんで、その年の夏に北米大陸を縦断に挑戦。アラスカからワシントン州まで7,200km 走ったわけ。雄大な景色の中を毎日走って、沢山の野生動物とか、面白い人達と沢山会って、チャリ旅の魅力にどっぷりとハマる（笑）

After this trip, I decided to travel by bicycle around the world.

この旅の後「世界一周チャリ旅行」を硬く誓い、今に至るって道のり(完)

When I was a student in Japan, I was more conservative and thought I would like to build up my career. I cannot still believe how my stay in the U.S changes my perspective of the life.

自分自身、日本で学生してた時はもっと保守的で、自分のキャリアを積み上げる事を考えてたけど、アメリカ留学がきっかけで本当人生観変わったよな～

I made a very interesting relationship with Japanese adventure cyclists. Each of them have experience for taking long distance bike tour such as crossing Asia, from china to Europe. Kokoro-san, one in this photo, just came back from 5 years bike tour. He is like professional pedalist. The conversation we had were very unusual like how they survive from Tibet dog, how they hide themselves from Chinese police inspection in Tibet. I thought it was awesome... I hope I can do like them.

最近、世界を旅したサイクリスト達と出会う機会があった。ユーラシア大陸横断したり、この中の一人、心さんは5年も世界を旅して、つい最近帰って来た人。みんな濃すぎて、会話がぶっ飛んでて面白かった。チベット犬からの逃げ方とか、中国公安からの隠れ方とか。普通じゃないよね(⌒-⌒; )

Most of preparation I can think of got done I hope. Less than 3 weeks remaining till the time to take off. These days, I meet my friends and ride my bike most of my time. My leather saddle fits my butt pretty well.

準備もだいたい終わったし、出発まて3週間を切りました。最近は友達と会ったり、自転車を乗り回す毎日。皮サドルも大分、お尻に馴染んできました。

I heard before that it would be like riding on wooden horse, but actually I could ride on without rider's pants. so happy that I could decide to purchase it.
以前聞いた話によると、革サドルは木馬に乗ってるように痛いらしいた、全然そんな事はなくて、むしろライダーパンツをはかないでも痛くない。高かったけど、買って本当良かった。

30km away from my home, there are some nice roads for riding a bike. I like ride on the hill rather than riding on cycling pass along the river.

だいたい家から30km くらい走るとこんな感じ、飯能・入間周辺。結構良い道があるんです。やっぱり、山道走るのが楽しいな。

ここ3日間良い天気ですね。北海道で絞れた身体を維持すべく、走っております。
It's been nice out for last three days, so I've been on bike for keeping my shape.

昨日は海まで行ってきた。片道53km程度、工程は荒川のサイクリングロードをひたすら海へ。
Yesterday, went to the ocean. The route is just following Arakawa river bunk til Tokyo bay.

案外、家から海まで近いのにビックリ。ワシントンに住んでた時に、海まで近いと思ったけど、それでも片道120kmだったし。
Surprised that it's pretty close to the ocean from my home town. I thought when i was in the U.S that Centralia where i lived was close to the ocean, but it was 120km away from ocean.

昨日、一昨日走った秩父の山の中は、空が青くて綺麗だったけど、やっぱり東京の空はくすんでるな～
The sky in Chichibu area where i rode in yesterday and day before were so blue and clear, but The Tokyo's sky is always hazy.

チケットを購入、という事で世界戦への出発日が決定致しました。
Purchased the air ticket so finalized schedule of taking off.

途中、工程は変わると思うけど、今のところはこんな工程で考えてる。あんまりゴール地点とかは考えていなくて、気が済むまで、金が続く限りといった感じ。一応、2009年の春・夏で走った北米のルートのゴール地点くらいめで行けたらな～って考えてはいるけど。
Will be changed this route on the way. I don't make any concrete goal point so basically as much as I can and want, and my budget is in my pocket.However, think a little bit to get to the point which was the end of the route for my long bike ride, spring and summer 2009 in America.

時間もあるし、天気良く分からないし、今まで考えていたちょっとした改造をした。
It's been crappy weather and I got extra-time, tried to make some improvement on my bike.

まずは後ろのフェンダー（泥除け）
思いっきり半分切断。

フェンダーはあると便利だけど、取り外しが面倒だし、少し重い。上に多少の荷物を乗せれば、その荷物がフェンダーがわりになる。水がかかったら嫌な、足の付近部分だけ残して切断。
Nice to have a rear fender, but It's pain me when I need to remove and install and also little bit heavy. I probably place a stuff on the top of rack anyway. So, cut it off but leaving some for preventing to get my legs dirty.

これも少し重かったし、取り外しが面倒だし、こっちのほうがスッキリだからね。
My previous one was little bit heavy, and It was troublesome to remove and install. This is much simple.



そんで、次。
今使ってる自転車がチェーンステイが長く（中心フレームと後輪の間が普通より広い）スペースがあるから、何かできないか考えてた。そして思いついたのがこれ。
The chain stay of my bike is longer than normal bike, so I've been thinking what I can make a improvement by using this space. Then came up this idea.










ここに500ml のボトルやちょっとした物入れを装着できるようにしたのだ。
Can install 500ml water bottle or stuff bag on this.


これで、我が愛車の輸水能力は合計５リットル。ボトルを4本フレームに着けられるようになった。砂漠地帯を通貨する時とかに大活躍しそうだ。
Now, the capacity of carrying water on the frame is 5litter, 1.1gallon, so it will be thankful when i go through middle of desert.
