Took a side trip by bike. It's 70 km for one way. Since I am an outdoor person, there are not many interesting place to visit in Main part of Malaysia; many places in this country have became plantation.

Taman Negara N.P is the only place I am interested in and I can visit on the way. There are twe way I can reach here; one is by small boat and second is by bus or car. I chose my bike. It was pretty nice ride; very few traffic. However, even just right before N.P., many part of jungle became plantation. I know this industry is very important for this country to grow, but the view of it makes me a bit sad and shame on us as people who live in a developed country.

タマンネガラ国立公園へ寄り道。アウトドア好きの人間としては、メインパートのマレーシアは、あまり興味をそそられる場所が少なく、タマンネガラは唯一魅力的に感じた場所。

ここにたどり着くには、小さなボートに乗るか、バスで行くか。自分はもちろん自転車です。ここまでの行程は、交通量が少ないのもあって快適。ただパームヤシやゴムの木林ばかりで景色はあまり良くない。マレーシアはプランテーションになっている場所がとても多い。ちなみにプランテーションはヤシ油やゴムを採取する為に、ジャングルを切り開いて、パームの木やゴムの木を植えてあるエリアの事。この国を成長させる為に必要なんだろうけど、見ていて悲しくなるし、先進国に住む人間としては辛い気持ちになる。先進国の需要を賄う為に、どんだけ途上国の自然を犠牲にしてんだろうか。

Anyway, It took me 4 hours to get here. Now, I'm staying at a hotel in small village, Kuala Tahan, located other side of river; people who stay in this village need to cross this river by boat to go inside of it.

そんなこんなで、4時間程こいで到着。今は国立公園の対岸にある村のホテルに泊まってます。国立公園内のリゾートに宿泊してる人以外は、公園内に入る場合、川をボートで渡ります。







I arrived here about noon so took a short hike. Entrance fee is 1RM and bringing Camera fee is 3RM which I still don't understand why they charge for cameras.

昼くらいに到着したから、ちょっと公園内に入ってみた。エントランスに1RM カメラ持ち込みに3RM。未だにカメラ持ち込み料の意味がわからない。

In Jungle, even though I just hiked few hours, I saw many animals like birds, giant salamanders and etc. There were canopy walk, so I walked 40m upper ground of jungle. It's very scary but nice to see jungle from high spot.

ジャングルの中では、たった数時間しか歩いてないのに、みた事もない色の鳥や、巨大なトカゲなんかを見る事ができた。キャノピーウォークなるものもあって、ジャングルを地上40mの高さから眺める事もできた。けっこう怖かったけど、ジャングルを上から見るのも、なかなかなもんです。







For tomorrow, will do long hike.
明日は、長めのジャングルハイキングに挑戦します。

I'm abou 60 km south of Taman Negara N.P. For tomorrow, I'll be in jungle.

タマンネガラの約60km手前くらいまで来ました。明日、ジャングル入りします。

Road condition in Malaysia is very good; not heavy traffic, more space for cycling, well contracted paved road, etc. It's very easy to cycle here.

マレーシアの道路状況は非常に良いです。交通量もそれ程多くないし、自転車が走れるスペースも多少ある。舗装もしっかりしてて、穴や波打ちもすくない。とても走り易いです。





In Malaysia, there are three main human races; Malaysian, Chinese and Indian. They live on the own cultures and normally live in same areas; I passed Chinese, Indian and Malay village on the way. It's fascinating for me to see people in different culture live in same country.

マレーシアでは主に、マレー人、中国人、インド人が住んでて、彼等は彼等の文化を守りながら生活しているようです。だから住んでる地域も同じ。ここに来るまでも、中国人の村、インド人、マレー人の村なんかを通り過ぎて来ました。日本では考えにくい状況ですが、違う文化と宗教の人間同士が同じ国で生活しているのは素晴らしい事だと思います。

Since the population of Malaysia is about 30 million, there were not many people along the way here. Its very nice to stop anytime and take a brake anywhere I want. Like in Jawa, Indonesia, I sometime had hard times to avoid people.

マレーシアの人口は３０００万人足らず。そんな事もあって、道沿いに人があまりいない。インドネシアのジャワ島なんかでは、人の目線がない場所を探して休憩するのが大変だったから、好きな時に、好きな場所で休憩できるのはありがたい。

Staying 3 night at very comfortable hotel in Melaka, I feel I got enough energy charged to move forward. From tomorrow, I will start to pedal again.

とても居心地の良いホテルに3夜、十分に先に進む体力を充填できた気がするので、明日から前にこぎ始めようと思います。

I was supposed to go on west coast, but I changed my mind to go on central part since the cyclists I met in Sumatra told me that the cycling in west coast was pretty boring.

もとは西海岸沿いに進もうと考えてましたが、スマトラ島であったサイクリストから、西海岸沿いはつまらなかったという話を受け、予定を変更し、内陸部を進もうと思います。

There will be more mountain and tropical rain storm in the central part. I should be fine because I got over crossing Sumatra which was extremely hilly island and became like Super Siazin.

内陸部は山が多いし、おそらく熱帯性の雨にもかなりの確率で遭遇するはず。ただスマトラの山々を超えてきた俺は、今やスーパーサイアジン化しているので大丈夫でしょう。

This town used to be colonized by Holland. See many mixed culture in the town; Europian, Malaysian, Indian and Chinese. 昔オランダの植民地 、街中のいたるところに混ざり合った文化が見られます。

I safely arrived to Melaka, Malaysia. The Ferry going to Malaysia was delayed about 3 hours; arriving about 3:30pm, so I couldn't have much time to look around here. Will do tomorrow and go get a map of Malaysia.

無事にマレーシア入りしました。フェリーが約3時間遅れで出発したおかげで、今日はあまり散策できず。明日から行動開始。まずは地図を調達せねば。

My first impression of Malaysia is very clean. I don't see much ravish on the street like many ravish I saw in Indonesia. Seems social system here works in Malaysia.

到着しての感想。とても街が綺麗。インドネシアで見たような、いたるところに散らばったゴミの山が見えない。マレーシアの社会システムはちゃんと機能してるようです。

Welcome to Malaysia.


First stay in Malaysia; Travelers lodge. Very clean. Cannot believe this is only 25RM(about $5) マレーシアでの一泊目 トラベラーズロッジ。この綺麗さで約500円とは信じられません。

Following the oil pipeline; oil industry is owned by chevron, last 2 days, now I got to Dumai. This is the my distention of cycling in Indonesia. I will take a ferry and be in Malaysia on Tuesday.

シェベロンが所有するオイルパイプライン沿いに、この2日間ひたすら走りつづけ、やっとドマイに到着しました。ここがインドネシアでの最終目的地。火曜日にマレーシア行きのフェリーに乗船します。





Pumping oil for 1 million barrels every day. 一日100万バレル。


It took time in Indonesia more than I thought, but cycling in Sumatora was really fun even though so many upping down here; nice people and variety of scenery; Jungle, beeches and small quiet villages . Now, I feel I can go up any steep hills.

予定以上にインドネシアで時間がかかったけど、スマトラ島はいかった。この島の中に面白い場所が凝縮されてて、走ってて楽しかった。身体が出来上がって、どんな坂でも登れる気がします。


In Sumatra, I stayed in Police office many times. They were mostly welcoming and sometime invited me to stay at their own house and provided meals. I really thank to Indonesia police officers.

スマトラ島では、かなりの日数、警察署に泊めてもらいました。だいたい訪問すると嫌な顔せずに泊めてくれて、何回かは彼等の家に泊めてもらったり、食事をご馳走してくれたりなんかもした。本当に感謝です。

Indonesia is a really big country so many things I couldn't see in this time. I will come back for sure.

インドネシアは本当にデカイ国。沢山見られなかった場所だらけ。必ず戻ってこよ。

Staying in Bukittingi for couple of days, now I'm heading east to get Dumai to take a ferry to Melaka, Malaysia. After endless upping down since I left at Padang, the road became flat. It's very easy ride. Will be arriving to Dumai in few days.

ブキティンギで2泊。その後、東に向かい、マレーシアのマラッカに向かうフェリーが出るドゥマイに向かってます。パダンから終わりの見えないアップダウンを抜け、やっと道も穏やかになりました。あと数日でドマイに到着します。

Rafresia, ラフレシア


On the way to east, Harau valley. 東へ向かう途中。ハラウ渓谷

Since I like this city and met nice people, I stayed another night here. Mr. Jon took me a waterfall nearby this city. We hiked a bit to get there. The waterfall was alike a famous waterfall in Japan, Ryuuzunotaki. We swam the bottom of it with enjoying flesh air in jungle. It powered to me to go forward from tomorrow.

この街が気に入ったのと、とても良い人達との出会いがあったので、もう一日この街にとどまる事に。ジョンさんに連れられて、今日は滝に行った。短い距離だが山の中を歩いて滝へ。日本の竜頭ノ滝にとても良く似ている。滝壺で泳いで、ジャングルの酸素をたっぷりと吸い込み、明日からの行程の為に充填完了。

I've never expected before that I turned into 30 years old in Sumatra. My cerebration at the beginning was not so good. The bridge on the way was just corrupted last night due to the strong wave in the time of high tide. So I needed to take a different way that was dusty and rocky unpaved road.

30歳の誕生日をスマトラ島で迎えるなんて過去に考えた事もない。誕生日の出だしは最悪。昨夜の満潮時の強い波で、通るはずだった橋が崩れて通行止め。おかげでホコリだらけのデコボコ道を走って遠回り。



After that, my birthday became better. The road was along a very nice white sandy beech-side road. It's very quiet and relaxing. When I visited a police office as usual to ask if I can stay there, I met nice people. They took me around the town, Painan. We saw such a beautiful sunset and had a nice dinner. How nice my birthday was.

その後は、誕生日も良い方向に向かう。道は最高に気持ちいい、白い砂浜沿い。静かな癒しを感じながら走り今日の目的地へ。いつものように警察署に泊まる為に交渉しに行くと、良い人達に出会い、街を案内してもらったうえ、最高に綺麗なサンセットを見させてもらった。何だかんだで、良い誕生日 だったな

I've not taken any day off for a week so it's day of resting today. Mostly spent the time for washing cloth, checking my bike, eating snack and checking Internet.

一週間程休息をしてなかったので今日は一日休憩。洗濯、自転車いじり、栄養補給、インターネットなどなどして一日終了。

Will start pedaling again tomorrow.
明日からまた走り出すぞ(^O^)／

夕焼けに染まるジャングルにこだますアザーン。神秘的です。

I'm getting weak by end-less steep upping down. The road in here are always up down and snaking. It makes cycling very difficult.

ショウスイしてます。ほぼ行く道全て急なアップダウンの繰り返し。そしてクネクネ。自転車はキツイ。

When I faced a big steep hill, I really want to go up strait by force of going down. But due to bad constriction of the road, in many places, I need to go down slowly. Its so frustrating.

急な坂を目の前にして、急な下り坂を下る時、下った勢いそのまま登り切りたいが、道が悪くてスピードをおとさないといけない。本当がっかりします。

About 600km cycling in Sumatra, I am still in south part. Its still 1100km left to get to the port where a ferry going to Malaysia is. Sumatra is too big for 30 days visa extended.
I probably should pick up speed. My visa will be finished on Nov 5th.

600kmスマトラ島を走ってますが、まだまだ南です。マレーシア行のフェリーが出る街まで、まだ1100km。30日のVISA延長だけじゃキツイ。あんまりゆっくりしてられない。VISAが28日にきれるから、ペースをあげなければ(^_^;)

Another problem I'm facing is broken my cycle computer. I can't make sure how long I go so far each day. Now, I'm just asking people or guessing. In this situation; no cycling CP, it's a bit pain.

もう一つ問題。サイクルコンピュータが壊れた。どれくらい進んでるかわからない。今は想像にまかせるか、人に聞いてます。VISAがギリギリな今、ちょと痛い。

There are so many small villages and communities along the road.
When you go through a village, almost 100% people are waving their hands and says 「hello, how are you!!」or「Turist!!」including gramma and grandpa.

道沿いに沢山小さな村や、コミュニティがあって、通る度ほぼ確実に、ハローとか、バウアーユーとか、ツーリスト!!とか声をかけられます。

Seems people in here are extremely welcoming tourists. However, I feel sometimes It's little bit too much because people in almost whole community look at me and trying to say hello to me. Sometime a lot of kids are chasing behind me.

スマトラ島の人達は、かなり、かなーりフレンドリーなような気がします。時々、ちょっと疲れますが(^_^;)だって、村を通るたびに、ほぼ村全体の人達が声を掛けてきますから。。。時には大勢の子供達に追いかけられます。

Anyways, so far so nice in Sumatra; cycling along beach and jungle and very less traffic compared with Jawa and welcoming people.

そんなんですが、自転車でビーチ、ジャングル沿いの道を走るのは最高です。何より交通量がジャワ島と比べてかなり少ないし、人がフレンドリー。
