I came to Chap Cha, a capital of South Quinghai Tibet prefecture. Now, I am heading west and my distention will be Urumuqi.
海南チベット族自治州の州都、共和(チャプチャ)まで北上し、ここからは進路を西にとり、目指すはウルムチ。


In this town, Chap Cha, there were many Tibetian walking street even though it's quite a big town; majority of people in big towns of China are normally "Han Chinese" I thought.
この町、大きいわりにチベット人が結構多い、怪しげなアクセサリーなんかを路上で売ってたりなんかして、チベット匂が以外と強い町だった。


I met a nice Tibetian family and wanted to stay here longer.
ここでチベタン家族との良い出会いもあったし、休息して出発。


However, I got unexpected encounter with police again and had a trouble so couldn't stay here no longer than a night.
しかし、またしても公安とのトラブルがあり、1泊しか滞在できず。


In this time, they took me three different offices and checked everything I had including photos. Fortunately, I had my camera in my pocket, so they didn't check photos from Shangri La which they might not like.
今回は小さい公安から中くらいの公安、最後は法院まで連れ回され、更には持ち物を調べられ、写真まで全部チェックされた。ゴンバの巡礼なんかした時に使ったカメラ(シャングリラからの写真)はポケットに入れてあったんでチェックされずセーフ。


I really hope this is the last encounter with them and also hope I am not on black list because I had many troubles with them so far.
もう彼等との再会はこれっきりにしたい。なかなか彼等には世話になってるから、ブラックリスト入りしてなければ良いが。


In a town south east of Quinghai lake, I met many Chinese cyclists and cycled with five of them. Lasa is very popular place for Chinese cyclists to go, like many Japanese cyclists going to Soya cape.
青海湖手前では中国サイクリストとの出会いが連続して、計5人で3日程一緒に走った。日本人サイクリストが北海道の宗谷を目指すように、中国人サイクリストはみなラサを目指す。


Quinghai Lake was so blue as the name shows. This is salty lake so can't be drunk. I cycled along this lake three days and couple of days were sunny. Those days were like cycling in a blue world.
青海湖はその名の通り、正に青い海。この湖は塩湖で飲み水にはならないらしい。3日間湖沿いを走ったけど、天気が良かった2日間は、正に青の世界。


Since this area is still in Tibet culture, Tibetian flags were fluttering on the bank of it which was very beautiful.
チベット文化圏ということもあって、湖の畔にもタルチョがはためいて、とても神秘的だ。



But, I'm going out of Tibetian culture area. The number of temple became dramatically small.
ただ、圧倒的にゴンバの数は少なくなった。だんだんチベット文化圏から遠ざかっているのを感じる。



I left the Chinese cyclists in Chaka at a village 100km west of the lake. They were going to Gorumu, and I'm heading to Urumqi.
中国人サイクリスト達とは青海湖を100km程過ぎた場所にある茶卡(チャカ)という場所でお別れ。彼等はゴルムド方向へ。自分はウルムチ方向へそれぞれの道を進む。

I went down lower elevation after cycling Tibet highland. My left toe got miner frostbite.
左足の指が軽く凍傷になるも、チベット高原を北上し、まともな海抜の場所まで下りてきた。



It's very very cold there. It was my first experience to get the components of my bike frozen while cycling.
いやいや、本当に寒かった～。走ってる最中にギアやチェーンが凍って動かなくなるなんて、ある意味貴重な経験。


Now, I'm in Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
今いるのは海南チベット族自治州。


I feel that I am getting out of Tibet culture area. It's because the number of Tibetian flags I've been seeing everyday became fewer, and more Islam live in the village.
そこらじゅうで見かけたタルチョの量が少なくなり、通る町では回族(イスラム)の姿を多く見掛けるようになってきた。チベット文化圏から出て行っている事を実感。


I really miss very friendly Tibet people.
チベット人のうざったくなるくらい人懐っこい人柄が懐かしい。


I haven't taken a bath for a very long time so really want to wash my body.
というか、いいかげん風呂に入りたい。いや、シャワーでいいから浴びたい。

I got used to avoid bad dog and went through many bad place of dogs. But not in this time.

大分追い払うコツはつかんで、何匹もの犬を交わして来たが、今回は通用しなかった。



The whether of Tibet highland changes quick. I was cycling in sun, but suddenly it's changed to snow storm. I found a nomad's home nearby so pushed my bike towered to it to evacuate.

チベット高原の天気はコロコロ変わる。天気だと思ったら急に猛吹雪。雪をしのぐのに、目に止まった遊牧民の家に逃げ込む為、自転車を押している時の事。



I faced on 5 dogs around me. I felt like a baby sheep surrounded by wolves.

犬5匹に囲まれ、正に狼に囲まれた子羊状態。



I thought I would be killed.

絶対絶命のピンチ。



Once I tried to through rocks, other dogs tried to attack me.

石を投げようとすると、後ろの一匹が襲いかかろうとして来る。



In such situation, human made strange voice...

こういう時、人間無意識に変な声が出る。ぅは～



They were getting closer and closer. It's about time to attack.

間隔が狭まり、ヤラレル寸前。



A neighbor came out and helped me, so I survived.

家にいた遊牧民が助けに来てくれ、間一髪その場をしのぐ事ができた。



However, I got another hole on my bag again....

ただ、リアのバックにまたしても穴が(T_T)



In this time, they, nomads who helped me, let me stay their home.

この日は、助けてくれた遊牧民のお宅にお世話になりました。



Really, I recommend for anyone to be prepared for dogs in Tibet.

本当、チベットの犬には気を付けましょう(T_T)



On my way, I think this will be the biggest pass, 4824m, on my way in China. It's between Yushu and Goroku Tibet prefecture.

道中、多分この峠が中国での道中一番デカイでしょう。ユウシュウとゴロク間. 4824m





I was stuck in a village due to heavy snow after passing this pass, so waited in a guesthouse until snow storm get died down.

峠を越えた場所にある村で、大雪に見舞われ足止め。吹雪が収まるまで安宿に2連泊。





People here were good looking.

カム·ゴロクはハンサムな奴らが多いね。







Next day of snow storm. On the way to Matu. Everything became White.

吹雪の翌日、吗多(マトゥ)への道中。真っ白

I'm getting out of Sichuan. I'm now in Suchui, a town 100km from Qinghai province.
そろそろ四川省ともお別れ。現在、青海省からわずか100キロにあるSuchuiに滞在中。

I had a trouble with police again here. They said that I didn't apply foreigners registration on the way here, so I need to pay 500 yuen as punishment.
ここでも公安とトラブル。外国人登録してないから、500元払えとさ。


What an ass-hole they are! I paid 50 yuen in Shinglon, and police in Ganze didn't tell me that I needed to do this on the way.
ふざけんな！シンロンで50元払ったし、ガンゼの公安にス�`チュイに着くまで外国人登録しろなんて言われてないから。


Fortunately, I had a cellphone number of a police in Ganze who explained to the police in Shinglon how I came here. Then I could avoid to pay 500 yuen.
運良くガンゼで世話になった公安の携帯番号が残っていて、この人に説明してもらう事ができ、500元の罰金は逃れる事ができた。


However, they told me that I must leave this town tomorrow.... Whatever...
ただ、Suchuiで許された滞在は1日のみ。。別に良いけど。。


Trouble with police is continued...
トラブルは続く・・・

There was a Gomba, the place where monks practice, 30km from Suchui. It's not on a map but really big.

スーチュイから30キロ程進んだ場所にスーチュイゴンバがあって、地図に載ってないのにかなりデカイ。





I liked this place because i felt thick Tibetian atmosphere.

ここ自体が街みたいになっていて、チベット一色。かなり良い雰囲気。



seemed this is the season when people sell Yak's skin, so there was some people selling it on a street.

時期的なのか、街中ではヤクの毛皮を売り買いしているのが目立っていた。



There was a pilgrim trail around Gonba about 2 km and very nice view from the hill behind of Gomba.

ゴンバには2キロくらいの巡礼ルートがあって、丘の上まで上がると街が一望できる。






After walked all the way of the trail, I was on my way back to my guest house. Unfortunately, I encountered with the police I met in Suchui city.

巡礼ルートを歩き終え、宿に向かう途中、まさかの昨日の公安と再開。



Seemed he was looking for me.

どうやら自分を探していたようだ。



He said that he got a phone call from Ganze headquarter, and they told him to make sure to leave me from Ganze prefecture within today.

何やらガンゼ県から自分を今日中にガンゼ県から退去させろと連絡があったようだ。



Kenta 「that's okay I will be Chingkai province tomorrow」

俺 「言われなくても、明日には青海省だから」



Police 「you must leave today, not tomorrow that my boss said」

公安 「今日中に出させろという本部の指示だから、明日は無理だ」



Kenta 「it's getting dark. No way to take off right now」

俺 「もうすぐ夜だから無理に決まってるでしょ」



Police「okay, let us take you to Chinkai by car」

公安 「じゃあ、車で青海省まで連れて行ってやる」



Kenta 「Fuck you!! I don't want to go by car」

俺 「車はイヤだ」



Police 「okay, so let us go behind you, so you can ride your bike」

公安 「なら、後ろから追うから走るか」



Kenta 「it's already 5pm, and next town is 70km away. Are you serious?? 」

俺 「この時間(17時間)から？青海省まで70キロあるから！！」



Police 「you don't have any choice. You want us to take you by car?」

公安 「なら車で送ってやる」



Kenta 「Fuck off!!」

俺 「車はイヤだ」



Police and I had been doing such conversation for awhile. Eventually, I was kicked out and needed to take off to Chinkai province.

こんな会話がしばらく続き、結局夕方から青海省に向けて走り始める羽目になってしまった。



I started cycling 14km/h with police car behind me.

というわけで、公安の車を後ろにつけ、平均時速14キロで青海省まで進み始めた。



I hate to cycle in dark, and also there were many bad dogs on my way.

イヤなのは夜間走行だけじゃない。犬。



It's so scary to be chased by dogs in dark.

暗くなってから犬に追われる恐怖は半端じゃない。



Every time when I felt dogs coming, I stopped and throw rocks. Police also did that with me for 70km on the way.

毎回、犬の気配を感じたら止まって石を拾い投げて犬を追い払う。この作業を公安も一緒になって70キロの間、何度も続けた。



There was a big pass about 4700m between Sichuan and Chinkai. I got snow. I could cycle up, but police car couldn't. So I pushed police car.

四川省と青海省の間には4700mの峠があって、この手前では雪。自転車は登れたが公安の車はスリップして登れず、おかげで自分が公安の車を押すはめに。



What an annoying police.

どんだけ俺に迷惑をかけるんだこいつらは！



I got into a town in Chinkai about 12 am. My fingers got very cold and almost frostbite.

結局、青海省の宿がある街に着いたのは24時。寒さで手の指先が凍傷になりかけた。



I couldn't move because my fingers are very hurting, so Police brought my bike to a guesthouse.

手の指先が痛くて自転車に乗れない自分の為に、公安が自分の自転車に乗って宿まで移動。



Then at the end, police forgot to gave me back my gloves and went back to Sichuan. They were really really really annoying me even at the end...

そして最後、自分の手袋を公安にカリパクされ、本当、本当、本当に最後の最後まで四川省の公安には迷惑掛けられた。



Next day, I cycled with wearing my socks on my hands because I couldn't find appropriate gloves in the town.

次の日、まともな手袋が街で見付からず、靴下を手に履いて走りましたとさ。



Anyway, I'm now in Yushu Tibet area, Chinkai province.

というわけで現在、玉树(ユウシュウ)チベット地区(青海省)に入りました。



To watch out Chinese police and dogs.

中国の公安と犬には気を付けましょう

After Ganzi

My bike got so muddy by cycling in snow.
初日は雪になり、自転車がこんな事に。。

There was a guest house for trucker 60km from Manikanko and was a hot spring!!!
マニカンコから60キロ程進んだ所にトラック宿があって、何と温泉が！

Since I left Shangri La, I didn't have any chance to take a shower. It's like a heaven.

シャングリラを出てからというものシャワーすら浴びられない日々が続いていたから本当最高だった。



Seems people in this area don't have custom to take a bath frequently.

どうやら、この辺りは身体を頻繁に洗う習慣がない？みたい。



In Cheep guesthouse and staying local house, I didn't see bathroom in many times.

安宿、民泊、いずれも身体を洗う場所がない。しかもトイレもないケースもザラにある。



For as Japanese, can't believe house without bathroom.

日本人からすると、トイレがない家なんて考えられないよね。

In Where nomads live, there are many people having dogs. This dog is big and full of fighting sprit. I heard that many Tibetan also get bite.
遊牧民の生活圏では 犬がよく飼われてる。こいつらやたらとデカイ。しかも獰猛で、チベタンも良く噛まれるらしい。


The second day since I left Ganze. I cycled by a small community as normal days. There were Tibet dogs, and they tried to attack me.
ガンゼを出発し、何気なく通り過ぎた集落にもチベット犬がいて、いつものように襲いかかってこようとしていた。


Usually, dogs were on a leash but not today....
普通は鎖につながれていて安心なんだが、この日ばかりは違っていた。


There were a couple of Tibet dogs without leash!!
チベット犬2匹。鎖につながれてない！！


They were running toward me like a super car and attacked my rear side bag.
猛烈な勢いで自転車に突進して来て、リアのサイドバックをガブリ！


I had a stick but couldn't make enough time to take out. The force of the dog had a enough power for me to fall down.
携帯している棍棒を取り出す暇もなく、そのすごい力で自転車ごと転倒。。


I though I would be killed.
この時は「ヤラレル！！」と思った。


Suddenly, the second dog attacked the first dog that bite my bag like trying to steel food. Then they eventually lost their interest of me.
すると、2匹目が1匹目と獲物を取り合いするかのように喧嘩を始め、俺の事なんかそっちのけ。


I run away while they were fighting.
この隙にスタコラサッサとその場を離れ


So...I'm okay..
そういうわけで、無傷です。


But, my side bag got a hole.
でも、リアのサイドバックに穴があいた(T_T)


Actually, I got my bag bite by dogs 3 times total in north west of Ganze province.
実際、ガンゼ北西部で犬にバックを噛まれたのはこれまで合計3回。


I really want to tell anybody cycling Tibet "to watch out Tibet dogs!"...especially where nomads live..
チベット地区を旅行する時は、犬に本当に気を付けましょう。特に遊牧民の生活圏。


By the way, seemed throwing rocks is most affective.
ちなみに、石を投げるのが一番効果的みたい。

From Litang, I spent several days on offroad to get to north Tibet highway.
リタンから北チベットハイウエイに抜けるべく、またしてもオフロードの日々を過ごして来た。


I'm now in Ganze.
そして現在、甘孜(ガンゼ)


On the way here from Litang, I got stopped in Shinlong by ass-holes, police. They told me that I haven't applied foreigner registration in town so must go back to Shangri-La.
途中、新龙(シンロン)でポリ公に止められ、外国人登録を道中してないと難癖を付けられ、「シャングリラまで戻れ」と言われるピンチがあった。


Kenta：「No way, you don't know how difficult my cycle on the way here is」
俺：「いやいや、シャングリラからかこに着くまでどんだけ苦労したと思ってんの」


Police：「why you don't know the foreigner registration rule in each city.」
公安：「中国で観光するには、必ず全ての街で外国人登録しなければならない事になってるのを知らんのかね」


Kenta：who knows??」
俺：「そんなん誰が知ってんの」


I had been complaining about this system to them.
こんな会話がしばらく続き、抗議し続けると


They told me in Chinese language which I didn't understand. Then eventually, I paied 50 yuen as penalty and then they let me go.
ごちゃごちゃ中国語で言われ、結局50元のペナルティを払わせられ、その場を通る事ができた。


I've never heard foreigner registration. I really want to fuck these asses off.
外国人登録なんてルールあんの？ 本当、こいつらは目糞鼻くそだな。


Anyway, even though I had a bad time, very nice people powered to me to move forward.
そんな事もあったけど、道中最高にナイスな人達に癒され走れました。





Men in Ganzi are called "Kampa". Some guys wear red cloth on their head which look very nice. They look different from Chinese; tall and muscular. They have very dark skin so look like Indian.
ガンゼの男達はカンパと言って、赤いダーツェ(ターパン？)を頭に巻いていたりしててカッコ良い。出で立ちも筋肉質で背が高く、色が黒いからインディアンみたい。



When they walk on plain, it's like picture.
この出で立ちで草原なんかを歩いてると本当絵になる。


In August, they have a horse race. I really want to see it.
8月には競馬？みたいな祭りがあって、カンパ達が馬に乗って走るのが見れるらしい。見てみたいな～


In Ganzi, I found a nice electronic store. I sold my cam, one I bought in Batang and cost MeV1550 yuen, for 1200 yuen. Then bought a new better Sony cam for 2800 yuen.
ガンゼでは大きめな家電屋を発見し、バタンで買った1550元のNikonを1200元で売り、変わりにソニーのサイバーショットを2800元でゲット。


This town is one of the major city in Ganzi province, and many people walking street. Its very fun to look at People wearing different tribal cloth.
この街はガンゼの主要な街なだけあって人の行き来が多い、いろんな衣装に身を包んでいるチベタンが街をウロウロしてるのを見るだけですごく楽しくなる。






However, there were many police and checking people in town, so I can't take my cam out.
一方で、すごい数の公安が街をウロウロしてて、やたらにカメラも出せやしない。


Every time when I talked to Tibetian, they complained about police. I agreed. It's very stressful.
チベタンと話をする度に、公安の悪口が出てくる。そりゃこの状況じゃ精神衛生上良くないよな。


I really don't understand why China doesn't understand forcing people doesn't make change.
力で押さえつけても何も解決できない事を、何で中国は理解しないのか不思議でしょうがない。

I bought a Nicon camera in Batang. I don't like this but better than nothing.
バタンでは新たにカメラを購入、ニコンのコンデジ。気に入ってないけどないよりはましだからね。1550元。



I took the south tibet highway from Batang to Litang. Ass-holes, police, seemed to be not interested in a cyclists coming from west; I passed gates without checking.
巴塘から理塘まで南チベットハイウェイを南に進む。やはりポリ項は西に進む人には無関心みたいで、検問も素通り。


Until a big pass in Haizigou Valley, there were 4 long tunnels, that were more than 2000m long without lights inside. I was eased that I had a light.
海子山まで2000m以上の真っ暗トンネルが4ヶ所。本当ライトなかったらムリ。





The view from the pass was very nice...

It's sometime good to detour.
遠回りも良いもんだ。



Chinese local roads are very bad condition, so I don't want to cycle. But no choice to cycle up north without taking this route.
中国のローカル道はコンディションが悪くて、走るのが本当に不安。でもこのルートしか北上ルートがない。



I cycled Chonza to Batang where the road going along the border of Tibet. People and the view were super nice beside the road was very bad.
中咱(チョンザ)→巴塘(バタン)までチベット自治区に入るか入らないかというオフロードを走って来たが、景色も良いし人も最高に良かった。道は最悪だったけど。



People were always smiling at me, said hello and gave me batter tea.
みんなニコニコ挨拶してくるし、何度バター茶なんかをご馳走になった事か。



However, there were many police check points, and I encountered 3 times.
反面、本当に小さな村にまで公安の検問があって3回は止められて質問を受けた。


Questions they usually gave me were "where I'm cycling from", "where I'm going", "show my photos" etc...
だいたい、どっから来たのか、何処へ行くのか、写真を見せろ、等々。


This is good or bad, my both cam had been broken. They didn't check my memory cards.
運が良いのか悪いのか、カメラは全部壊れてるから、メモリカードの内容チェックはされないで済んだ。


In Xiangcheng, I met a guy from France who cycle and hitch both; We just talked a few min because he was on his way. He left me a message in Chonza and said police didn't let him go further.
多城で少しだけしゃべったフランス人ヒッチ・サイクリストは中咱で止められて、退去させられてしまったそうだ。


Really, if these such asses, police are not on the road, the cycling become more fun.
本当、こいつら(公安)さえいなければ最高なのにな～
