Tomorrow will be the last day of cycling China. Before finalizing the section reports, a bit about on the way here.

中国走行も今日と明日で最後。中国走行のまとめは別で書くとして、カザフスタン国境までの道のりを少し。














Scenery was pretty nice especially 100km before the border. There were some Yot?, traditional tents nomads use, on grassland so it was nice view those tents with snowy mountains behind.

カザフスタン国境のコルガス手前100キロ、山がとても綺麗だった。草原の中にポツリポツリとあるウイグル人遊牧民のヨーク？というテント、草原を見渡すと馬に乗った遊牧民が羊を追いかけてるのを良く見る。















I wished I could stay one night. This time I needed to give up because my visa is dead tomorrow.

日程に余裕があればテント泊させてもらいたかった。







Those snowy mountains reminded me Washington, Montana and Colorado. I expected desert and grassland before visiting here so was a bit surprised.

山はワシントン州やモンタナ、コロラドを思い出す未だに雪が残る山々。カザフスタンは砂漠・草原のイメージがあったから、驚いたし感動。






A lot of mountain i havent seeing long time are waiting for me on my way. Like areas where tibetian live, people live with mother nature crosely I'm so excited to see local people in central Asia.

しばらくおさらばしていた山岳地帯。四川・青海のチベット族地区もそうであったように、自然と共に生きる中央アジアの人々との出会いがこれから待っていると思うとウキウキして来る。









Well, now time to go...hope the border is opened.

さあ明日はカザフスタン入りですよ～ 国境閉じていませんように

It's long day today.

いやいや、一日長かった～



In the result of applying visa, I successfully got Kazakhstan visa. It was long process and a bit tiering. However, my schedule next 4 days became much easier.

結果的に言うと問題なくカザフスタンビザゲット。いやいやここまでのプロセスは長かった。というか疲れた。でもこのお陰で明日からの工程は大分楽になった。



My visa is veiled from today and last 30days. I don't mind to waist some days by the time when I cross the border because I won't stay this country long time.

受け取ったビザ、受領日から有効のビザになってて、自分の場合5月28日から30日間。別に長居する国ではないので問題ない。



I know everything I need to do in central Asia won't go well. I was frustrated this visa issue at first but made possible.

全てが上手くいかないという噂の中央アジア。最初からどうなるかと思ったが、何とかしてやった。



I could buy a bus ticket for going back to Kuitun, without problems. Now, I feel no stress.

奎屯へ帰るバスのチケットも問題なく買え、意気揚々と愛車の待つ町まで帰るのであった。

Pedaled 250km on the road of prairie. There were plenty of towns along the way, so no problem to fill up my stomach.
草原をひたすら西へ250キロ。 この間、大きな街が結構あって食住には全く困らなかった。


On my way, I met a nice family. I stopped at a restaurant as usual. The family who own it was interested in my journey. They gave me a free meal, bunch of tomatoes and eggs, and bottle of cokes.
道中、普通に立ち寄った食堂。すごく良い家族で、飯をタダにしてくれ、しかもトマトや卵を山ほど頂き、出発間際にはコーラまで頂いた。



After cycled through where Tibetian live, I haven't had much chances to experience people's kindness. This encounter made me very happy and push up my heart.
チベット族地区を過ぎてからというもの、人の暖かさに触れる機会が大分少なくなってたから、久々に心が温まった。あ～嬉し！


Anyway, now I'm in Kuitun, a typical chinese town in countryside.
そんなわけで、今は奎屯(クイトゥン)っていう街。ビルが立ち並ぶ良くある中国の地方都市。



I stayed at a guesthouse across the street from a bus terminal. It costs me 30 yuen. A bit tuff to bring my bike up to 4th floor.
宿は長距離バスターミナル向かいの安宿。30元だけどセキュリティちゃんとしてて綺麗。ただ4階だから自転車運ぶのしんどかった。


Tomorrow I will take a bus going back to Urumqi. I already bought a ticket for 55 yuen in advance.
明日予定通りここからウルムチまでバスで戻ります。チケットは今日のうちに買っておいた。(55元)


Really hoping that Kazakhstan visa is ready.
カザフビザ準備できてますように。


By the way, the Japanese guy I met at the Kazakhstan embassy in Urumqi emailed me that he got the Kazakhstan visa on Friday. His picking up day was supposed to be the same as mine, but he went to the embassy on Friday to check if his passport was ready. He was lucky.
あ、ウルムチでカザフスタンビザ申請した時に会った田中氏。彼も自分と同じ月曜に受取り予定だったが、彼はダメもとで金曜に領事館に行ったら、何と既に出来上がっていたらしい。


I don't understand the embassy process. I think he could even get his visa on Thursday.
まったく、何てワケのわからないプロセスなんだ。多分、木曜に行っても受取れたんじゃないか。


That's okay because I met nice people on my way...
まあ良い、道中良い人と会えたから許そう。

I did nothing in Urumqi because there were nothing interesting for me.
何も観光しなかった。ウルムチ。というか、見たくなるような場所が無いから仕方ない。


Instead of sightseeing the town, I could get many things done such as maintaining my bike, sending back-up DVD of photos, working on applying travel insurance payout.
その代わり自転車パーツ揃えたし、家に写真バックアップ送ったし、保険金請求関係の雑務終わらせたし、まあいろいろずっと溜まっていたやりたかった事は終わらせた。


Also, I met Japanese, Mr.Tanaka and Ms.Hayatu so I could make a lot of Japanese conversation with them which made me relaxed.
日本人バックパッカー、田中氏や早津氏にも出会えて、久々に日本人会話を沢山できたから、かなりリラックスできた。両氏共に良い旅を！


Then, now I have only one annoying thing that I need to get done, Kazakhstan visa.
そして、まだ残る目の上の瘤的なカザフスタンビザ。


As my plan, I took off today without passport; I have a copy.
考えた作戦通り今日出発しました。もちろんパスポートはありません。コピーは持ってるけど。


I should watch my way very carefully to avoid any accidents.
何も無いようにいつも以上に気を付けなければ。


On my way, I found water pamping out from Karaze, water came through tunnels underground. This is one of the biggest ancient invention of China. This water is drinkable; very cold and nice taste.
道中やっと見付けたカレーズ(地下通水道)の水。これ飲めます。冷たくてかなり美味い！

The next priority is to maintain my bike.
重要事項2点目。自転車パーツの予備購入。



There were a plenty of bike shops in this town. I found there are 4 or 5 bike shops in an area.
この街には自転車屋が多い。中には、自転車屋が何件も固まっている場所もある。

I visited 10 different shops since Saturday and looked for some needs.
土曜日から少しずつ周って、10件以上は見て周った。


The best store was a JIANT store on 新民路. I was surprised there was even XTR. However, I couldn't find the same size of Pury and good tires.
一番品揃えやスタッフも良かったのは、新民路にあるジャイアント。XTRまであったからビックリ。ただ、一番重要だったプーリーとタイヤだけは、思っていた物は手に入らず断念。


Pury was Shimano but different size.....For tires called KENDA, designed in Tiwan and made in China..
プーリーはシマノだが、サイズ違い。取り付けは出来たが不安。タイヤはKENDAとかいう台湾メーカーの中国製フォールディングタイヤが一番まともで、これを2個購入したが不安。


Really hopping nothing wrong on those tires on the way.

The first priority is to apply for Kazakh visa.
重要事項1点目。カザフスタンビザ申請。


I visited the Kazakh embassy on Monday. I researched the location and a process of applying visa in advance, so had a confident.
月曜日になったんで、早起きしてカザフスタン領事館に出掛けた。場所、申請方法は事前に予習してて、忘れ物なし！


The embassy is located in Kunming road as the web information I saw.
場所はネット情報通りで昆明路沿い。


After 9am, I talked to a security guard and went inside; foreigners can go inside without making a line with Chinese. A guy gave me a paper with a map of an another building and explained that I needed to go to that place to prepare applying forms. Actually, people could prepare everything in the embassy beforehand according to web info.
9時過ぎになって警備員のおじさんにパスポートを見せて、人民の列を飛ばして中に入れてもらったが、何か地図が書かれた名刺を渡され、ここで申請書を準備して来るようにと指示をされる(ネットの情報には、領事館で申請書を渡されるとなっていた)


I was a bit confused but went to the building, only 5 min away from the embassy; the same Kunming road. The place called DOSTH on the 6th floor.
少し戸惑ったが、場所も近くて昆明路を北へ戻った場所。このビルの6階にDOSTHなる機関が入っていて、ここで申請書を準備する。


There were many Chinese people waiting already, but I could came in because I am a foreigner. I paid 20 yuen as documentation fee, and they did everything for me; I was sitting and sometime answered questions.
フロアには人民の長蛇の列。ただ、外国人は優先的に手続きさせてくれるようだ。事務手数料で20元取られ、申請書を作成してもらう。係員の指示を待っていれば、特に自分でやる事はない。


Finally, I got the all paperworks done and visited the embassy again.
やっと手に入れた申請書を持って領事館へ戻り、必要書類全て提出。


I passed the all my papers and passport. They didn't ask anything like where I will go, why and etc...at the end, they gave me a paper that shows pick-up time of my passport. It will be next week of......
係員にパスポートを預ける。質問なんかは全く無し。最後、パスポートの引換書を渡される。受取りは来週。

！！！

Next week??? Today is 21 Monday, and 28 Monday will be pick up time!! According to the web information, waiting term should be 3 business days.
来週???今日が21日(月)。受取りが28日(月)になってる!!(ネット情報だと3営業日待ちだから木曜には受け取れるはずだった)

This guy was totally ass!! Very annoying attitude. He didn't even listen to what I said.
かなりふてぶてしい態度で相手にもしてもらえなかった。こんな初めから中央アジアの洗礼を受けるなんて(´Д` )


The pick up time is 3pm of 28. That means my schedule to the border will become very tight. My china visa will be dead on the 1st of June and 650km left.
28日15時がビザの受取りだと、残りの日程がかなりタイトになる。中国ビザが6月1日に切れるのに、国境までは650キロ。28日も含め5日で650キロ。実際キツイ・・・


Very difficult... Let me think a better way..
ん～ 何か良い方法があるはずだ～

I came up an idea that I take off on the 25th and leave my bike somewhere safe and then come back to Urumqi by a bus to get my passport back.
そこで考えたのが、25日に出発し途中の街で自転車を残し、ウルムチまでバスで戻る。この先300キロくらいは大きめの街が多いから、バスなんか多いはず。


When I applied the Kazakh visa, they didn't ask my address and phone number during processing. It's a bit risky to move on without passport but much easier for my body.
カザフビザを申請した際に、ウルムチでの滞在場所なんか聞かれてないし、連絡先も記載しなかった。パスポート無しで走るのはリスクは有るが、これで行けば身体には優しい。


Thus, I will take off on Friday.
そんなわけで、金曜にウルムチ出ます。


I expected that there would be a lot of difficulty to travel in the central Asia but not expected from here....
いやいや、中央アジアは全てが上手くいかない場所とは聞いていたが、こんな場所からとは。。。

The time for me to stay in china is getting running out. At the beginning, I worried how I can make to get to Urumqi in 2.5 month, but there was no worry. Even I could make my schedule in advance.
中国生活も残り少なくなってきた。最初は2ヶ月半でウルムチまで行けるか？とか思ったけど、意外と普通に来れたし、しかも多少の余裕を残して。


I was pleased that I prepared 3 month china visa in Japan. However, I regretted that I couldn't go to the south part of Xinjiang. If I had another 1 month, I would go to south route.
やっぱ日本で3ヶ月の中国ビザ用意して正解だったね。欲を言えばあと1月使って、新疆の南部行きたかったな～


Anyway, now I'm in Urumqi.
とにもかくにも、そんなわけで現在ウルムチ。


This is the biggest city in west China. The population is about 1.3 million. There are a lot of stores along streets like Ikebukuro, Tokyo.
130万の人口を抱える、中国西最大の街。高層ビルが立ち並び、街中にはショップが所狭しと立ち並んでいて、池袋っぽい。



I think most of them are from Han Chinese but saw some Uighur, Kazack and Hoi people.
多分、ほとんどが漢族で東部からの移民。ただ、ウイグル族やカザフ人、回族も良く見る。


In this town, I stayed at the hostel called 麦田青年旅社. Dormitory cost 45 yuen(40 yuen for the member of hosteling international). Compared with guesthouses, I have normally stayed so far, 45 sounds expensive. It's okay because there is free wifi and clean room here.
ここでの滞在には麦田青年旅社というホステルに滞在させてもらってて、ドミトリー45元(ホステルのメンバーカードを見せれば40元)。これまで使って来たトラッカー宿なんかと比べると倍の値段するが、WiFi飛んでるし、綺麗だし、まあいい。


I have a couple of important things to do in this town.
この街でする事、重要事項2点。

I thought those works should have been easy to get done, but noooot....
普通に両方共に大丈夫だろうと思っていたが、そうは上手くいかなかった。

Many things are getting bad shape as the total trip distance is reaching 15,000km.
走行距離ももうそろそろ15,000キロ。いろんな物にガタがきてる。



1.crank-set - Need new one
1.クランクセット→交換必

2.Puri - Need new one
2.プーリー→交換必

3.Cycle computer ; I had a cat-eye CC that was broken in Indonesia and bought the same new one in Malaysia. It's broken again now....I had a same trouble when I cycled in north America. I won't buy cat-eye any more....
3.サイクルコンピュータ→交換必(今回2回目：キャットアイは壊れやすいという結論に達した。北米走った時も1度壊れたし。もう二度とキャットアイは買わん！)

4.Tire ; now my tire is schwalbe marathon Dureme. I had 3 puncture after 13,000km total distance. I think its about time to change.
4.タイヤ→交換必(現在 シュワルベ マラソンDureme。13,000キロ過ぎてからパンク3回。そろそろ限界か・・・)

5.Pants ; I had a durable hiking pants, but they didn't last longer for long distance bike tour.... The texture became bad and got torn.
5.ズボン→新調必(やっぱり毎日履いてるといくら丈夫なズボンでも生地がかなり弱ってビリビリ)


Once I got into the central Asia, I won't be able to find professional bike stores until Istanbul I think...., so I should be better to prepare for the next several months in Wulumuqi.
中央アジア入りしたらイスタンブールまではシマノパーツがあるような自転車屋は見込めない?だろうから、ウルムチでしっかりと準備しなくては。


Anyway, now I'm in Tulubang, a town 2 days to Wulumuqi. This town is considered as the hottest desert town in China. However, they have a pretty greenish town since there are many water trails underground called "Karazu". They have enough water rescue from mountains far from here.
というわけで現在、吐鲁番(トゥルパン)。ウルムチまてあと2日？くらい。ここは中国で最も暑い砂漠の町らしい。でもカレーズという地下通水道のおかげで、天山山脈から水が豊富に来ていて、町は青々としてる。



This area is supposed to be on the trail where Sanzouhoushi went through.
この近辺は三蔵法師もインドに行く道中通った場所らしい。

The bezkilik thousand-buddha caves; ancient caves with a lot of buddhist arts.

I was surprised that the color of arts still remained clearly. However, all of the arts had been seriously damaged by Muslims.
1000年近く前の絵がこんな綺麗な色を留めて残っているなんて驚き。ただ、かなり破壊されてしまっていて残念(イスラムのジハードによって)


Gaochang Castle, the capital of Gaochang. Sanzouhoushi stopped here on their way to India.
高昌古城(ガオチャン古城)。ガオチャン国の都。三蔵法師一行もインドへの道中立ち寄ったらしい。



I felt doing a bigger adventure after thinking of that Sanzouhoushi saw the same view. Traveling by a car, bus or a train won't make this feeling...
1500年もの昔、三蔵法師が同じ景色を見ながらここを通ったと思うと、景色も何だかより壮大に見える。車やバス、電車で旅したらこの感覚は味わえませんよね。


I didn't see many Uiguru people in Hami, but now see many here Tulubang. Many of them live in a traditional house, room around a stairwell. I found that the women here are very beautiful. They wear one-pice dress and scarf on their head. Looks like they are people in Miyazaki movie.
クルムではそこまで感じなかったが、ここトゥルパン近辺まで来ると、ウイグル人が目立つ。家はウイグル独特の吹き抜けがあって、それを囲むようにして部屋がある形をしてる。しかし、ウイグル人の女性は綺麗だ。。ワンピースを着て、頭にスカーフ？を巻いている人が多い、何だか宮崎ムービーに出て来そう。



Seems its time to take a brake and look around this city before reaching Wulumuqi.
そいうわけで、ウルムチまで2日を残しトゥルパン観光。

Han Chinese used to consider West of Dunhuang as out of china. This city is an oasis town, and there are big sandy hills right behind it.
漢人はここ、敦煌(ドゥンホアン)から西を西域と呼んだらしい。砂漠の中に忽然と現れるオアシス。町の南には巨大な砂丘が迫っている。



Seems Camels are a main life stock of this area. I saw many of them walking along a road outside of town.
少し町から離れると、ラクダが沢山家畜として飼われて、道を歩いてる。しかし、何でラクダの下唇はあんなにだらしないんだろう。



Tourists attractions are spread around the town. Mogaogu, a cave ancient people created and also this is a world healitage site, is the most famous attraction here. However, I didn't want to go because it's not really interesting for me.
この町の見所は周辺に散らばっていて、莫高窟っていう世界遺産はその代表格。ただ、自分は180元＋交通費50元 払っても見たい程興味が湧かなかったから行かなかった。


Instead of visiting Mogaogu, I cycled around the town and walked in the sand hill.
その代わり、町の外側を自転車で散策しながら、砂丘に登りに行ったりなんかした。



It's a very unique view that greenish downtown surrounded by the huge pail of sand.
青々とした木々が生える市街地と、その外側に迫る巨大な砂の塊が、何とも対照的で絵になる。



I was not sure that I could take a rest today, but need to take off tomorrow. 900km to Urumuqi.
動き周ったから休息できたんだかわかんないけど、明日からまた出発。ウルムチまで900キロ。

It's been about 2 months cycling in China.
中国走行2ヶ月。


From north west of Quinghai, I started seeing camels instead of Yak that I saw everyday in Yunnan and Sichuan.
青海省北西部まで来るとヤクの姿が無くなり、かわりにラクダがチラホラ。



A highway in the desert goes straights to horizon where I can see. The color of what I see is all grey. The distance between village got wider so I more need to camp out on the way.
荒涼とした景色の中を、まーーすぐ道が地平線に伸びている。ただただ灰色の世界。村から村への距離も長くて野宿の回数も増えた。



I really miss the blue sky and nice view of Yunnan and Sichuan.
雲南、四川で見て来た青い空と景色が恋しい。


After passing a pass between Quinghai and Kansu, it is the totally Islamic world. There are Arabic everywhere in town, and people definitely speak different language.
青海省と甘肃省の間の当金山峠、ここを越えると完全にイスラムの世界だ。町にはアラビックが溢れ、言葉も明らかに違う。イラン系の人間もチラホラ。


In where Tibetian live, I was often asked "Witch tribe do you belong?" It was difficult question for me. Japanese is Japanese....I know original people in Okinawa is called Rykyu minzoku, and original people in Hokkaido is called Aynu(Ainu). But no idea what I am....
チベット族自治区でもそうだったが、良く「お前は何族だ」と聞かれる。日本人は日本人。琉球民族やアイヌ民族は知識としてあっても、自分が何族と考えると答えられない。ナイチャー？(沖縄風)


In China, there are 55 different tribes. They have all different cultures and languages. On my way so far, there were many different tribes. I frequently had troubles to communicate with them since they didn't understand normal Chinese language.
中国には55もの民族が暮らしていて、それぞれ宗教や言葉も多種多様。自分が通って来たルート上は、沢山の違った民族が暮らしていて、中国語が通じない事なんて日常茶飯事だった。


Before cycling in china, I had an image that China is just a big country. However, now my image of China is like Europe Union; different countries create a group.
以前は、中国は1つの大国ってイメージを持っていたが、今はいくつもの国が集まった共同体(EU)のような場所だと感じる。
