I stayed 4 nights and left Milano. From 50km north, there was also friends in the town near to Como. I had planed to stay his home.
ミラノに4泊させてもらった後北へ向かう。と、ミラノから約50キロにあるコモ近くにもこれまた友人が住んでいる。ここでもまた滞在させて頂いた。イタリア人のロレンソ。

Lorenzo is the big guy about 2m tall, so I look very very small if I stand next to him.
身長は約2m。並ぶと自分が小人になったようになる。


I met Lorenzo and two of other guys, Stefan and Emily in this photo in Tajikistan last summer.
この写真の中にいる男性2人、ステファンとエミリも友人で、今回自分が来たのでみんなで集まった。彼等とは去年の夏にタジキスタンで会ったのが最初。

They were all older than I was but so enojedic. We hungged out every day till mid night. Fun to be with cyclists.
皆さん自分より大分年上だけれど本当元気で、毎晩遅くまで良く付き合ってくれました。やはり自転車乗りは同士は楽しい。


During my stay in Lorenzo's home, I cycled area of where lake Como was. Seemed this area was where many rich people live. I saw couple of Ferraris in few hours after started cycling, and porsche is running like normal cars in this area. There were different world.
滞在中はコモ湖周辺を自転車で走ったけれど、この辺は金持ちが多いようで、フェラーリを2時間に2台も目撃したし、ポルシェは普通に走っていた。住む世界が大分違う。





I have stayed his home for 3 nights. Good to be keeping in touch with good friends. Now, going to SwissLand.

Again ferry, I took it from Bastia to Jeneva, Italy.
コルシカのバスティアからフェリーで7時間かけてイタリアのジェノバに渡った。

After out of ferry, I found immediately the difference between south of Italy and north. There were not much garbage on public, and drivers behaving much better; no honking. For me, it looked dramatical change.
やはりイタリアの北側だからなのかゴミも目立たないし、車のクラクションもほとんど気にならない。きっとこれが南と北の違いなのだろう。



I had planed to stop in Milano. My friend works here and prepares a free bed for me.
まずはミラノに立ち寄る事にしていた。ミラノには大学時代の友人が仕事で赴任していてタダ宿が用意されている。


From Jeneva, it was 200km to Milano. I got this distance done in two days. I normally don't cycle such distance in short period. However, the route was not hilly and almost all way flat till Milano.
ジェノバからミラノまでは200キロ。コルシカからジェノバに着いた日は40キロ走って、翌日一気に残りの160キロを走りきった。こんなに普通なら走れないけれど、ジェノバの北側に山があった以外はほぼフラットでかなりスピードが出せたおかげ。

Its been 4 years since we met last time, 4年ぶりに再開したS。

People who know Centralia might know him. I was surprised that he would come to Milano for working. He is now new in his office. I was impressed how he had been changed in good way; more mature I thought.
Centraliaの関係者は覚えているでしょう。まさかのイタリア赴任、新入社員で来たばかりらしいけれど、ずいぶんとアメリカにいた時よりしっかりしていて感心しました。


In Milano, there were many Japanese so I spent my time with other Japanese there also.
ミラノには日本人が沢山いるようで、S宅滞在中は日本人の輪の中に何度か加えて頂いて良くしゃべって飲んだ。

It was very good time to share the time with people who live seriously in their life. Now, I'm a bit feeling homesick.
同年代の今を真剣に生きる人達と話ができてすごくエネルギーを頂きました。皆様ありがとうございました。あまりに楽しかったのでミラノを出てからホームシックです。

I wanted to find a new tent and to change my handlebar during my stay in Milano, but I couldn't find what I wanted even though I went many shops. Seemed bike tour goods need to be found in where people do more.
今回のミラノ滞在中にテントを買ったり、自転車のハンドルを交換したかったけれど、店を何件も周ったのに両方とも見つけられなかった。アウトドアはともかく自転車ツアー用品は盛んな国でないと良い物は手に入らないようです。

After entering Corsica, the price of everything became very expensive especially agricultural products and processed foods. For example, 1kg of tomato which was €1 in Sicilia became €2.5 in here. 100g of ham that was €2 in Sicilia got €4. If I purchase a lot at a store, the total price gets €20 easily.

コルシカは物価が半端なく高い。特に野菜や加工品。例を言えば、トマトがイタリアでは€1だったのが、コルシカは€2.5。生ハムは100gで€2くらいだった品が€4もする。大量に買い物すると€20とか行ってしまう。



France is a country where people put strongly effort on their holiday, this is my image, so there were a lot of holiday tourists in Corsica. I saw many family campers, backpackers and also cyclists everyday.
そして世界一余暇に力を注ぐフランス人(自分のイメージ)、そんなお国のこの島はこの時期家族連れや学生バックパッカーで溢れかえっています。サイクリストもすごく多くて毎日何組ものサイクリストとすれ違いました。

All Camping grounds were very crowded, キャンプ場はどこもかなりの混み合いよう。


I wondered why so many. There were not many in Sardegna where frequent ferry connections from France was.
何でこんなに人が来るのか。サルデーニャへもフランスからフェリーが頻繁に発着しているのにこんなに観光客はいなかった。


I found the reason after I started cycling along west coast.
その理由は西海岸線を進み始めてわかった。

All west coast line was really beautiful I've never seen such beautiful coast line in my life.
ほぼ西海岸全部、こんなに綺麗な海岸線を見た事がないと言って良い程 景色が素晴らしい。

Around Porto. This place, Porto bay has become a UNESCO site. The red cliff was amazing.
まずはポルト周辺。この辺りはポルト湾として世界遺産になっている。切り立った赤い断崖がすごい

The part of that looks thumb up. The road goes around this peninsula. The beach of this part was especially beautiful. The water was so clear.
コルシカ島の親指を立てたような形をした部分西側。断崖沿いを道が半島を一周している。この半島沿いの海は透明度が高くてすごく良かった。








I will say this island was a packet of outdoor activities like hiking, cannoning, rock climbing, cycling, fishing, swimming etc... This is why French people like this island for sure.
登山、キャニオニング、クライミング、サイクリング、釣り、海水浴、他等々。この島にはありとあらゆるエンターテイメントが凝縮されていた。これだけ盛り沢山な島だからこそフランス人が良く来るんだと思う。


However, on the other hand, the thing Corsica didn't have but other islands I have visited last a month was I say "Smell of human life". When I visited Sicilia and Sardegna, there were normal life of people like people going markets and buy stuff, people sell tomatoes in the streets, etc... In here, Corsica, it seems, for me, every things for tourists. I will say "The Tourist island"
一方で残念だったのは全く地元の生活感がなかった所。シチリアやサルデーニャであったような人間臭さは全く無く、内陸も海岸線沿も正にTHE 観光地だった。


I guess this island had had local life before like others. However, it had been changed by tourists inference.
元々はここにもローカルな生活があったのだろうけれど、観光客の渦に呑み込まれてしまった島のように感じられた。


Anyways, even though I found some negative perspective of this island, the scenery of Corsica was amazing enough to eliminate those. I have been cycling major islands, Sicily, Sardegna and Corsica in Mediterranean ocean last a month. Each of them have had unique characteristic, so there were always some thing interesting every day.
そおは言っても、それを打ち消すくらいこの島の景色はすごいと思う。約1ヶ月シチリア、サルデーニャ、コルシカ島と地中海島々ツアーをして来たが、それぞれに特色があって毎日めじろうしだった。


From now, I will get back to the main part of Europe. The next fun will be Alps. The second half of my Europe tour will be started.
そして、ここからヨーロッパのメインパートに戻ります。ヨーロッパ後半スタートです。続いてはアルプス！

From S. Teresa, a town in north end of Sardegna, Moby lines runs a ferry 4 times a day to Bonifacio, a town in south end of Corsica.

サルデーニャの北端にあるS. TeresaからMoby Linesが毎日4便 コルシカ島の最南端の町Bonifacioにフェリーを出している。

The price was €25 included bicycle. It took only 40min so I thought it was expensive. I think its because this is ferry for tourists.
チケットは自転車入れて€25。40分しかない船旅の割には高い。多分、利用するのがほとんど観光客だからだろう。


Corsica, コルシカ島入りです。


this island is very close to Italy but belongs to France. People said "Bonjour" at a super market. It remembered me I was in France. The town I first arrive, Bonifacio looked a place where very rich people own houses. There were many big cruisers and yachts.
ここはイタリアに近いけれどフランスです。スーパーに行って、ボンジュ～ルと言われてフランス入りを実感しました。このBonifacioという町、豪華クルーザーやヨットが入江に停泊していて、すごくリッチな感じの町でした。


This island is also rocky mountainous island like Sardegna. However, the difference was they didn't have much farms and agriculture lands. This island was more densely forested. Most of part was national parks.
それでコルシカ島はというと。サルデーニャと似て岩がゴロゴロな山岳島と見れます。ただ、コルシカ島は農畜産はあまり盛んではないのかうっそうとした森が大半で、内陸はほとんど全て国立公園になってますね。

Bigs were everywhere in the mountains. They looked wild. I couldn't stop imaging of bacon every time I saw them.
ブタだらけ。野豚です。完全に野良です。ブヒブヒそこら中をウロウロしています。お腹がいつもペコペコなのでこのブタ達がベーコンに見えて仕方ありませんでした。

Then I bought Corsica pig bacon. It cost €16/kg so was not cheap. However, the taste was amazing.
さっそくお店で買いました。コルシカ豚のベーコン。€16/kgだから安くわないけれど、お味はトレビア～ン。

Inland of Sardegna, I saw many of this.
サルデーニャの内陸ではこんな物を良く見る。

This is called nuraghe. People were used to use this as a house and fortress for long long time ago. I heard that 7000 of them remained in this island.
これはヌラーゲといって大昔の住居兼砦らしい。これがサルデーニャには大小7000も残っているそうだ。






I have seen other unique things of this island.
他にもこの島ではイタリア本土では見られないものをいくつか目にした。


This,, まずこれ。

This is un-fermented bread. It can be found at any supermarket easily. It's heavy so stays in my stomach long time. However, the taste was no so good.
スーパーに行くと、この無発酵パンが沢山売ってる。ずっしりと重くて腹持ちが良い。味はパサパサして普通のパンの方が美味しい。


I saw some old women wore blackish cloth in villages. It was also unique culture of this island. I heard that they were not widows. Men were tend to be short and muscular. They looked like me.
町を通り抜けると、年配の女性は黒い服を身に付けて、頭巾をかぶっている人達も良く見かけた。これは未亡人という理由ではなくてこういう習慣なんだそうだ。男性はずっしりとして背が低く筋肉質。これもサルデーニャ人の特徴らしい。自分と体型が良く似ている。


It was very hard to cycle inland of mountains. I sweated a lot every day. However, the cold water spring always helped me. The best water ever!!
内陸を走るのは山が多くてかなりしんどい。凄まじい量の汗を毎日かいた。でもそんな時山肌から湧き出る冷たい水。これが旨い。


The mountains of north was used to be called maquis. It was the place where punished people had been sent.
北部の山岳地帯はマキスと呼ばれていて昔は島の掟を破った物が逃げ込む場所(荒地)だったらしい。

It was about 450km to the north end. This is the end point of this island. Now, I will take a ferry again to Corsica.
そんなサルデーニャ450kmばかり走ればもう北の突端です。ここからフェリーでコルシカ島に渡ります

I decided to cycle inland because I had cycled mostly along the coast in Sicilia. This photo is the flag of Sardegna.
サルデーニャは内陸を進む事にした。シチリアでは大分沿岸に沿って走ったし気分転換。サルデーニャの旗

I saw trucks like this photo at the port. Looks Sardegna has plenty of trees.
サルデーニャは木が多いらしい。港にこんなトラックが沢山あった。

I wondered How much those could be after transporting by the ferry.
どこに持って行くんだか。木をフェリーで運ぶんだ。輸送費入れたらこの束はいくらになるんでしょう。


As I guessed, there were a lot of trees on the mountains in this island.
内陸に進んで行くとやっぱり綺麗な森がそこかしこにあって水も湧いてる。


The Olive trees were not growing here. There were a lot of cork trees instead.
イタリア南部であれだけそこら中にあったオリーブの林はほとんどは見当たらない。その代わりにコルクの木が沢山。


I met men harvesting cork barks on my way. A guy invited me to watch how they harvested.
途中であったコルクの切り出し作業をするおっちゃん達。作業を見て行きなさいと言われ、お言葉に甘えて見せて頂いた。



It was first time for me to see this. A bark was peeled off like peeling off the skin.
へ～ こんなふうにコルクを取るんっすね。うまい事ベロっと剥がれるものです。

The man tried to give me a big peace of bark, but I politely rejected because I had my bicycle.
お土産にとコルクの大きな皮を頂きそうになったが、自転車あるから～と丁重にお断りさせて頂いた。


People wave their hands when they passed by by their cars. At a village, some said Ciao when I went through streets. Seemed people were very welcoming strangers like me.
サルデーニャの人達はとてもフレンドリーで、車から手を振ってくれたり、町を通る旅にチャーオと気軽に声をかけてくれる。すごく気持ちが良い。

The thing i wanted to highlight was they have much less rubbish and stupid scrawls from southern Italy. I found this differences immediately after I started cycling. I wandered what made such differences, people, government or even might be the mafia.
それに特筆すべき点。ゴミや落書きが本当に少ない！！ これは走り出してすぐに気付いた。何が違うのだろうか。人なのか行政なのか、それともマフィアか。シチリア含イタリア南部で良くあった景色や気分を台無しにする忌々しいゴミの山や落書き。この違いはかなりデカイ！ 町を通る時も気持ちが良い。


They have much less cars, and I can drink good water from mountains. Seems this island is very suitable for cycling.
そして車は少ないし、山では
冷たくて美味しい水は湧いているし、サルデーニャかなり自転車ツアー向きと見えます。

Sardegna was actually not on my original plan. There was no special reason to change. I just like visiting islands. As I used to live in small japanese island, Okinawa, I like islands because there were normally unique culture and special atmosphere. I assumed there would be some differences in Sardegna from main land of Italy or even Sicily.

元々の予定ではサルデーニャに来る予定ではなかった。けれど来たのには特に重大な理由はない。ただ気分的にサルデーニャに行きたくなったから。沖縄にいる時もそうだったけれど、島があると何故か行きたくなる。だいたい島に行くと、その島独特な習慣や雰囲気がある。シチリアでもそうだったけれど、サルデーニャも何かイタリア本国とは違うものがあるのではないかとずっと気にはなっていた。


The ferry was scheduled to leave 19:30, so I went to the port on 18:00. There were already many passengers and cars lined up at the port, and they were waiting for on bord.
というわけで船の出港当日。出港時刻は19:30だったので余裕を持って18:00に港へ行くともう乗船客や車でごった返していた。

In this time also, the ferry was really big like one I took from Dubrovnik. It has a lot of space for the cars.
今回のフェリーも巨大なフェリーで車を沢山運べるように中が3階建ての立体駐車時みたいになってた。


After while, they started moving. It looked time on bored. I was lucky not to wait long time.
乗船手続きはすぐに始まって待つ事なく自転車を船に運び入れる事ができた。縛られる俺の自転車。


The ferry runs only once a week, so this ferry was clouded. Seemed most of people were tourists. This is middle of summer holiday season. The ferry left on time. Bye bye Sicily.
週に1便しかない事もあってかなりの人が乗船しているように見えた。多分ほとんどは観光客だと思う。予定通り船は出港し大海原へ。さよーならシチリア島

I slept on the deck in this time also. The sound of ship crushing waves was like nice music for me to sleep.
今回もデッキで野宿。船が進む音を聞きながら寝るのは気持ちが良い。


In the next morning, the ferry arrived to Cagliari, a capital of Sardegna. It was early Sunday morning, 7:30, so the center was really quiet.
そして翌朝7:30、サルデーニャに到着した。着いたのはサルデーニャ最大の街 カグリアリ。日曜日の早朝ということもあって街中は静まり返っていた。

I've decided to take a ferry to Sardegna. In Palermo, I need to buy a ticket for the ferry.
今後、フェリーに乗ってサルデーニャ島に向かいます。まずはここパレルモで乗船券購入です。

Tirrenia Ferry goes to Sardegna once a week. It leaves on Saturday night and costs €36 for cheapest price, Deck, €10 for bicycle and €12 for tax. Its total cost is about €58. There were also another ferry goes to Sardegna. It leaves from Trapani for every Sunday nights.
船会社はTirrenia Ferry。週1便のみで出港は土曜日の夜。一番安いデッキ料金で€36、自転車€10、税€12で計€58。この船以外もサルデーニャへ行くにはトラッパニから毎週日曜日夜に定期船が出ているようだ。

Now I have three days off in Palermo.
というわけで丸3日パレルモ滞在決定。

It's always fun to visit a market. They looked competing which shop keeper has loudest voice in this market. It was very fun to walk around.
市場はどんな時でも訪れて面白い場所。何か掛け声勝負をしているような感じで、すごく活気があって良かった。






A Tomato Truck. In this time of year, it looks a lot of tomatoes here. I saw a lot of truck carrying tomatoes like this.
この時期はトマトが安い。トマトトラック。こんなトラックが良く走ってる。


To be honest, I didn't like Palermo. Many cars and motor bike run on streets, and they honk crazy. I almost also became crazy by this noise. Italian use too much honk, and their driving manner is really bad.
パレルモは正直あまり好きにはなれなかった。車やバイクが多いし、クラクションが本当うるさい。この音は市場で聞く生活の音じゃない。ただの騒音。町中にいるだけで頭がおかしくなりそうだった。イタリア人はやたらめったらクラクションを鳴らしすぎだ。というか運転マナーが本当に悪い。


It's enough for me to stay in that stupid Palermo center by before noon. Then it was the time for swimming.
そんな雑誌にはいられて午前中だけ午後は海水浴。

This is the swimming point nearby my camp ground. It's very nice to swim. However, to be honest, I wanted to have someone coming with....
キャンプ場から自転車ですぐの場所にある海水浴スポット。気持ち良いけど、やっぱり海は誰かと来た方が良いっすね。

There were no place where I had planed to stop between Agrigento and Palermo, so I kept cycling without sightseeing. There were a lot of vineyards all over on my way.
アグリジェントからパレルモの間は特に見てみたい場所はなかったので毎日黙々と走った。この辺は大規模な葡萄畑がどこまでも続いていた。



In Italy, wine is very popular alcohol, so you can find a bottle for €1.5. A 330ml can of coca-cola is about €1, so the wine is really cheap. However,I heard that the wine from this region,West of Sicily was expensive.
イタリアでワインは庶民的な飲み物でボトルが€1.5くらいで買える。330mlのコーラ缶が€1前後なのでかなりワインがかなり安いのがわかる。€10も出せば相当良いワインが手に入るようだ。
確かこの辺りのワインはかなり高額とか

In Sicilia, they have cycling routes planed like following photo. If you just follow this route, you don't need to cycle on busy roads.
サイクリングルートもシチリア島全体にあってこんなサインが道端にある。これに沿って走れば交通量の多い道を走らずに進める。

They were not quite well developed, so the signs were not always at intersections. This is Italia. I'm getting used to it.
サインが分岐にあったりなかったりでかなりいいかげんだが、まーそれがイタリアなんです。そろそろこのいいかげんさにも慣れてきました。

You see more influence of Arab in west side of Sicilia.
やはりシチリア西域の方がアラブの面影が目に付く。

This photo was taken at Mazara del Vallo. It wasArab style building. As I cycled through a town, I saw people wearing typical Islam hats.
これは途中で通ったMazara del Valloの町にあったイスラムっぽい建物。町を通るとムルリム帽子をかぶった褐色の肌をした人達を良く見かけた。


From Trapani and Palermo, there are a ferry to Tunis, Tunisia, for once a week. It takes only 11hours to Africa.
シチリアの西突端にあるトラッパニと州都のパレルモからはチュニジアのチュニスへ週1便定期船が出ている。11時間も船に乗ればもうアフリカです。

Now, finally I arrived to Palermo where my last destination in Sicilia. I am not staying in the city center and decided to pitch my tent on a camp ground 15km away from the center.
そしてシチリア島での目的地パレルモに到着。今回パレルモ市内には宿を取らず、15km手前の町にあるキャンプ場を利用した。

There were so many kids looks in summer camp and families in this camp ground, so it was extremely busy some times. However, it costs only €8.5 with free WiFi so I should not complain. I stay here a little while until the ferry leaves.
夏休み中なので中学生くらいのサマーキャンプや家族連れでカオスな状況だが、€8.5だしWiFi無料だし、船の出港まで我慢して休息します。

West Sicily was more remote and agriculture lands. I sometime saw a lot of sheep crossing a free way and people riding a donkey.

シチリアの西側半分はさらに長閑な濃厚地帯が広がっていた。羊の大群が国道を横切ったり、馬やロバを未だに使っている人達もいる。


So far, I've never had problem for getting drinking water. However, since I came west side, the tap water became undrinkable. People use mineral water at cafes and restaurants. Looks I need to change my way to manage water. Now, I need to buy bottles of water at a super market. It normally costs 20 cents so is not big deal. However, I feel a bid bad for making prastic bottle rubbish every day because in southern Italy, they through everything away without recycling.
ここまで水は普通に町中で湧いている水を飲んでいたが、この辺の町では水が飲めないらしく、カフェやレストランではミネラルウォーターを使っているようだ。仕方ないので作戦を変えるしかなさそうだ。スーパーで2ℓのミネラルウォーターは€0.2くらいで買えるからフィルターは使わないで買う事にする。ただ、リサイクルなんか関係なしにゴミはポイポイその辺に捨てる南イタリアで、ペットボトルのゴミを毎日出すのは本当に心が痛む。


Anyway, I reached to the Agregento, a ancient Greek town where many temples were. This place is considered as the must visit town in Sicilia.
そんな事を考えながら進んでいるうちに、シチリア観光のクライマックスでもあるアグリジェントに着いた。丘の上に悠々と鎮座する神殿。

As I reached to this town, a temple on a hill front of town has been appeared. It was amazing view.
これはさすがに「ウォ～」となった。

In this hill, there were some temples, so this hill was called valley of temples. It costs €10 to enter. they allowed me to bring my bicycle so could walk with it.
この谷にはこの神殿以外にもいくつも神殿があって「神殿の谷」なる名前が付いている。神殿の谷へ入るには€10、自転車も乗らなければという条件で入れさせてもらった。

崩れ去った最大の神殿からはオリーブの木がニョキニョキ生えていた。


A stone statue used to stand on out side of the biggest temple. It was holding the roof.
最大の神殿の外側を支えるようにして立っていた石像。


I'm not a big fan of archeology. However, the valley of temples amazed me. Ive never seen such old temples, 400-500BC, still in shaped; really old temples had been always completely crasped.
考古学好きでもないが、ここは何気に良かった。これまで見て来た紀元前期の遺跡は土の塊と化している場所が多かっただけに、紀元前400～500年も前の建物がこんなにも形を留めているのは本当にスゴイと思う。そもそもこの丘に何でこんなに沢山の神殿を創る必要があったのか。不思議だ～

Camping in olive tree frost is very pleasant. They always have no much grass under and pretty flat. The farmers always cleared the ground of forests for preparing for harvest. It makes enough shade, so it's like natural camping ground.

オリーブ畑で野宿は気持ちが良い。オリーブ畑はだいたい下草が綺麗に刈り取られていて、収穫の為に平くならしてある。日陰も十分作ってくれるし、正に天然のキャンプ場だ。



I passed many such olive forests and visited a baroque town again.
そんな長閑な農村地帯の丘をいくつも越えて訪れてみたバロック建築町。



Modica, a small town 70km south from Siracusa was really beautiful.
シラクーザから南に70km程にあるModicaという町は素晴らしく綺麗な町だった。

A valley was almost completely covered by Brownish buildings.
谷の隅々までを埋め尽くさんばかりにびっしりと立ち並んだ茶色い壁と屋根。


As I walked into small streets, I felt people's life here. I felt to be brought back to mid ages.
細い路地や至る所にある階段を歩きながら人々の生活音や匂いを感じると、中世にいるような感覚になる。

The old center of this town was still center. The local's life and old atmosphere had been nicely mixed. I couldn't believe such an amazing town was not on Japanese guide book.
この町の旧市街は未だに中心にあって、地元の生活と古い街並みが混ざり合ってすごく良い雰囲気だった。ここが何故地球の歩き方に載ってなかったのか不思議で仕方ない。


At 15km from Modica, the town, Ragusa had really nice old center as well. They had also many old buildings on a hill. A church with blue top was nice accent.
この町から15キロ離れた場所にあるラクーザという町の旧市街もなかなかなもんだった。小さな丘にビッシリと張り付いた旧市街。てっぺんが青い教会が灰色の市街地に良く映えて見える。







Ragusa had a new center so the old center was separated from it. The old center was more like for tourists but was still fascinating to me.
こちらは新市街と旧市街は別で、旧市街は観光メインな雰囲気ではあった。ただ、それでもかなり綺麗な街並みであった事に間違いはない。

Siracusa is one of the ancient greek city. There are the biggest ancient theater in north of town. Archimedes, an ancient scientist, was from this town.

シラクーザまでやって来た。ここはかつての古代ギリシャ人都市。北側には世界最大の円形劇場なんかがある。昔習った歴史の教科書に何度となく出てきた科学者アルキメデスの出身地でもあるらしい。

I visited the theater. It costed me €10. This ticket covers all ancient monuments in this area; the place where the rocks for buildings had been taken, a colosseum etc..
その円形劇場、€10のチケットで闘技場や天の石切り場と言われる場所と併せて見る事ができる。

I was disappointed when I saw the theater because it was mostly covered by woods. It seemed they had had an even here.
この闘技場、先週催し物があったらしく板で石段が覆われていて、かなりがっかりな感じだった。€10返してほしいな

The old center had a lot of small streets. It's fun to look around. I didn't see much garbage like in Catarina. I think it's because this is one of the famous tourist attractions in Sicilia.
シラクーザの旧市街は細い路地が沢山あって散策が楽しい感じ。やはりある程度観光客の来る町だけあって綺麗にしてある。カターニアで見たゴミの山やイタズラ書は少ない。






I liked a market the best of this town. Many locals came for buying vegetables, fish etc.. The price was cheap as well.
この旧市街にあるマーケットは良かった。とても活気があって、朝から沢山の買い物客が来ていた。値段もスーパーで買うよりか安かった。





I bought tomatoes and blue mussels to make a Sicilia pasta for tonight. Tomato was €1 for 1kg, and Mussel was €2.5 for kg.
トマト、ムール貝を買って今夜はシチリアパスタを作ろうと思う。トマトは1キロで€1、ムール貝は1キロ€2.5だった。


In Siracusa, Mr. Gianni, I found him in Warmshower, let me stay in his home. It was very good chance to ask questions about Italy because there were very few people speaking English in southern Italy.
シラクーザでお世話になったギアン二氏。ワームシャワーで知り合い泊めて頂ける事になった。なかなか英語でスムーズなコミュニケーションを取れないイタリアでは、希少な英語が堪能なギアンニ氏。これまで溜め込んだイタリアの不思議を沢山質問させて頂いた。

A lot of interesting place in Sicily. I cannot move quickly.
シチリアは見所盛り沢山。なかなか進みません。

Campgrounds cost a lot, and it's not good service. I hope it's only in Sicily.
キャンプ場が高い。そしてそのわりにクオリティは低い。多分シチリアだけだろう。そう思いたい。

I camped in Taormina, and it costed me €12 without free Wifi.
タオルミナのキャンプ場は€12でキッチン無し。WIfiもフリーじゃないかった。

Came to Catania.
そして来ましたカターニア。


I was camping that costed me €17!! in same condition. They told me €24 at first, and I asked discount. Bush camping is much easy for me, but I want to look around this city so no choice. They have hostels but I don't like to stay in high season clouded hostel.
ここでもキャンプ場を利用する。€17で同じ条件。最初は€24と言われたが値切ってこの値段。野宿の方がよっぽど楽で良い。が、町観光したいので仕方ない。ホステルという手もあるが、高いし繁忙期の10人部屋とか本当無理。

Catania is second biggest city in Sicily. They have a center built in all baroque style. I stayed here for couple of days to see those.
カターニアはシチリア第二の都市で、バロック建築の街並みを観光するのに数日滞在する事にしていた。

The reason they build all buildings in baroque style is that an earthquake once destroyed badly this city in 16th. Then, this city had been reconstructed with all baroque style that was main stream in that time.
そもそも何でこんな街並みになったかと言うと、1600年代の地震で壊滅した街をその頃主流だったバロック様式で大規模修繕したから、バロックで統一された街並になったらしい。


The streets here are very simple; north to south and east to west. On along these streets, those baroque buildings had been built.
碁盤の目状に張り巡らされた道路沿いに同じようなビルが立ち並んでいる。













This town is really beautiful but sadly a lot of scribblings.
街並は綺麗なんだが、落書きが多い。綺麗な街並も台無しなように思えて仕方ない。



In Sicily, they have many people from Africa.
シチリアに入ってからアフリカ人を良く見かける。


I heard that the population of african had been started growing since 15 years ago. When you cycle to outside of city, you will see a lot of prostitutes from Nigeria. Many of people among people selling stuff on streets are African.
15年程前からアフリカからの移民が一気に増えたらしい。郊外を走るとナイジェリア人女性の売春婦を良く見かけるし、町中で路上商売をしている人にはアフリカ人が多い。


From here, Africa is very close. There is a ferry running from this island to Tunis, Tunisia.
ここからアフリカまでは目と鼻の先。シチリアからチュニジアのチュニスまではフェリーで繋がっている。



I left Catania and came to inland. There were some small baroque style towns inside of Sisilia. I wanted to visit them. In this time, I visited Militello in Val Di Catania and Palazzolo Acreide.
カターニアを後にして内陸に入って来た。内陸にもいくつかバロック様式で再建築された町がいくつか残っていて、一つはMilitello in Val Di Catania と、もう一つがPalazzolo Acreide、まだこれ以外もあるが、それは後日残しておいて、まずはこの2ヶ所を周る。


Sicily is also mountainous island where many gumtree and cactus grow. The winds bring the smell of gumtrees. It remembers me cycling Australia.
シチリア島も内陸は山がちで、ユーカリとサボテンばかりが目に付く。風が吹くとユーカリの香りがだだよって来る。オーストラリアを思い出した。



Went up hill and reached to Militello in Val Di Catania. It was nice small town.
山をエンヤコラと登ってまずはMilitello in Val Di Catania。こじんまりしていて良い雰囲気。






Upping again and reached to Palazzolo Acreide. This town was also nice small town as well.
さらに登ってPalazzolo Acreide。こちらもこじんまりとして良い雰囲気。






Both of towns didn't look like towns where many tourists go. Old men were chatting at a cafe, and they were very peaceful mood. Seemed there were not many bicycles with a lot of luggages, so they were so curious on me. They said "Where are you from" in Italian with hand gesture, I guessed. Then I said "Japoneze". They alway said "Blabo Blabo".
どちらの町も観光客が来る町というよりは静かなシチリアの村落といった感じだった。カフェでは爺さん達がたむろし、さすがにフルロードの自転車はあまり来ないのか、興味津々に話しかけて来る。ジャポネーゼと言うと、ブラボーブラボーと返してくれた。
